Acorn Deck House CompanyHeadland is a NextHouse, situated to take advantage of the site’s panoramic ocean views while still providing privacy from the neighboring property. The home’s solar orientation provides passive solar heat gains in the winter while the home’s deep overhangs provide shade for the large glass windows in the summer. The mono-pitch roof was strategically designed to slope up towards the ocean to maximize daylight and the views.
The exposed post and beam construction allows for clear, open spaces throughout the home, but also embraces a connection with the land to invite the outside in. The aluminum clad windows, fiber cement siding and cedar trim facilitate lower maintenance without compromising the home’s quality or aesthetic.
The homeowners wanted to create a space that welcomed guests for frequent family gatherings. Acorn Deck House Company obliged by designing the home with a focus on indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces with a large, open great room and kitchen, expansive decks and a flexible layout to accommodate visitors. There is also a private master suite and roof deck, which showcases the views while maintaining privacy.

The flooring featured in this home are a rich luxury vinyl that has the appearance of hardwood floors but the cost savings is substantial over hardwood.

San Luis Kitchen Co.We wanted a kitchen that had the flavor of old Mexico and the convenience of modern American-made cabinetry. Natural maple doors paired with red-stained trim give the design its foundation. Next we added a yellow tile splash with a colorful decorative liner and brick red grout. We then completed the look with green Corian counters, black appliances, and southwestern accessories.

ALTMANN & ASSOCIATESUpdating historic John Hudson Thomas-designed Berkeley bungalow to modern code. Remodel designed by Lorin Hill, Architect included adding an interior stair to provide access to new second-story bedroom with ensuite bath. Main floor renovation included new kitchen, bath as well as bringing all services up to code. Project involved extensive use of traditional materials and craftsmanship.
Archetype Design Studio, LLCCustom built wormy chestnut cabinetry in the Kitchen was made from lumber harvested from the property. Cabinetry was topped with Vermont Soapstone countertops and handmade Pratt and Larson tile backsplash. Painted beadboard backsplash serves as a contrast in the bar area. Big Chill appliances were used to give the look and feel of an old Kitchen. Brick grill enclosure doubles as a nice backdrop for hanging copper pots and pans. A copper range hood was designed to compliment other finishes used in the Kitchen. Custom cabinets built by J. A. Luciano and Sons Builders.
