ArtichokeThe long and welcoming room is flooded with natural light from floor to ceiling windows. The client wanted an understated kitchen designed using natural materials, sustainably sourced, that would wear with age and settle over time. They did not want a kitchen that felt like a modern insertion and yet it had to suit the needs of a contemporary family.
The work surfaces are all native hardwood at the client’s request, but well-sealed and protected. We also designed a sacrificial frame around the sink which can be replaced if the wood becomes damaged over time. The trench heater under the island is designed to deliver the right heat output for the room which has limited wall space.
Custom Creative Furniture, LLCThe knee wall between the original kitchen and living room was removed. The island was planned with seating and the sink. Another opening to the back butlers pantry are was opened to allow easy access to stock items and an extra refrigerator.
Studio 76 Kitchens and BathsWe designed a lovely mudroom in this 1830's home entryway. The seat features walnut from a tree on property. And the cabinets are our personal custom line: Studio 76 Home cabinetry. We also added shiplap on the wall and open storage above and below.
Bellingham Bay BuildersAfter many years of careful consideration and planning, these clients came to us with the goal of restoring this home’s original Victorian charm while also increasing its livability and efficiency. From preserving the original built-in cabinetry and fir flooring, to adding a new dormer for the contemporary master bathroom, careful measures were taken to strike this balance between historic preservation and modern upgrading. Behind the home’s new exterior claddings, meticulously designed to preserve its Victorian aesthetic, the shell was air sealed and fitted with a vented rainscreen to increase energy efficiency and durability. With careful attention paid to the relationship between natural light and finished surfaces, the once dark kitchen was re-imagined into a cheerful space that welcomes morning conversation shared over pots of coffee.
Every inch of this historical home was thoughtfully considered, prompting countless shared discussions between the home owners and ourselves. The stunning result is a testament to their clear vision and the collaborative nature of this project.

Fratantoni Interior DesignersThis French Country kitchen features a large island with bar stool seating. Black cabinets with gold hardware surround the kitchen. Open shelving is on both sides of the gas-burning stove. These French Country wood doors are custom designed.
