Hive HomeIn a home with just about 1000 sf our design needed to thoughtful, unlike the recent contractor-grade flip it had recently undergone. For clients who love to cook and entertain we came up with several floor plans and this open layout worked best. We used every inch available to add storage, work surfaces, and even squeezed in a 3/4 bath! Colorful but still soothing, the greens in the kitchen and blues in the bathroom remind us of Big Sur, and the nod to mid-century perfectly suits the home and it's new owners.

With beautiful granite and marble countertops and handmade backsplash. The dark stained island creates a two-toned kitchen with lovely European oak wood flooring and a large double oven range with a custom hood above!
Beautiful Habitat: Design & DecorationThis kitchen has zones for the whole family to be together, but engaging in different activities. The extended island offers ample prep space on the kitchen side and adequate seating on the living room side. Eliminating wall cabinets and combining storage into tall cabinets means everything is accessible to family members without tripping over each other in the food prep zone.
The wood slat dividers are a nod to mid-century modern, but appropriate for 21st century living. The wood slats create a barrier to the dining room, while allowing light from the large front windows.
Michelle Lawrence Interior DesignThis was an outdated kitchen that lacked function. It was an U-shape with a small island and the refrigerator was out of the kitchen. We duplicated the beam in the family room when we opened the kitchen. Because the home is on the water, with lots of windows we decided to get a brushed finish on the granite to minimize glare. Another feature in this kitchen is the under cabinet and toekick lighting for safety, since the kitchen footprint was dramatically changed. Added a bar area with an undermount sink and dual temperature, lockable wine cooler. We added a 12 foot center opening slider in the family room and extended the deck.
