An open-plan kitchen and dining space within a custom-designed new home, defined by volume, natural light, and material contrast. The dark cabinetry is balanced by warm timber ceilings and soft natural finishes, creating a refined yet comfortable environment. Large openings frame views to the landscape, reinforcing the connection between interior and exterior spaces while supporting everyday family use.

Come organizzare un monolocale di soli 19 mq netti rendendo distinti e funzionali gli ambienti? In questo progetto abbiamo studiato la distribuzione degli spazi per separare visivamente le diverse zone della casa in base alla loro funzione, senza rinunciare alla sensazione di apertura e continuità. Dalla porta di ingresso si accede direttamente alla cucina, progettata per sfruttare al meglio lo spazio disponibile. Un elemento divisorio in rovere, che integra al suo interno un piccolo frigorifero e un pratico appendiabiti, crea una schermatura tra ingresso, cucina e zona notte, definendo le diverse funzioni senza appesantire l'ambiente. La zona letto è raccolta all'interno di un piccolo nido in tonalità blu e rovere, pensato per creare una sensazione di intimità e comfort all'interno della superficie ridotta. Anche l'ingresso è stato progettato nei minimi dettagli: una fascia di controsoffitto in rovere accompagna l'accesso all'appartamento e contribuisce a definire visivamente la zona di ingresso. Il progetto dimostra come, anche in un monolocale di 19 mq, una progettazione attenta della distribuzione, degli arredi e dei materiali possa permettere di organizzare cucina, ingresso e zona notte in modo funzionale, creando spazi distinti ma armoniosamente collegati.

Weather House is a bespoke home for a young, nature-loving family on a quintessentially compact Northcote block. Our clients Claire and Brent cherished the character of their century-old worker's cottage but required more considered space and flexibility in their home. Claire and Brent are camping enthusiasts, and in response their house is a love letter to the outdoors: a rich, durable environment infused with the grounded ambience of being in nature. From the street, the dark cladding of the sensitive rear extension echoes the existing cottage!s roofline, becoming a subtle shadow of the original house in both form and tone. As you move through the home, the double-height extension invites the climate and native landscaping inside at every turn. The light-bathed lounge, dining room and kitchen are anchored around, and seamlessly connected to, a versatile outdoor living area. A double-sided fireplace embedded into the house’s rear wall brings warmth and ambience to the lounge, and inspires a campfire atmosphere in the back yard. Championing tactility and durability, the material palette features polished concrete floors, blackbutt timber joinery and concrete brick walls. Peach and sage tones are employed as accents throughout the lower level, and amplified upstairs where sage forms the tonal base for the moody main bedroom. An adjacent private deck creates an additional tether to the outdoors, and houses planters and trellises that will decorate the home’s exterior with greenery. From the tactile and textured finishes of the interior to the surrounding Australian native garden that you just want to touch, the house encapsulates the feeling of being part of the outdoors; like Claire and Brent are camping at home. It is a tribute to Mother Nature, Weather House’s muse.

This kitchen transformation takes place in a charming 1930s home, part of a full renovation with a new extension. Inspired by their travels to Japan and Scandinavia, the homeowners sought a space that combined warmth, simplicity, and practicality—perfect for their bustling household with two dogs and three children. The result is a minimalist yet inviting kitchen that feels calm and serene. At the centre of the design is a bespoke slatted oak island, crafted as a stunning focal point. This custom piece adds natural warmth and texture to the room, creating a welcoming and practical gathering space for the family. The cabinetry, chosen from our Fusion range, features clean, simple slab fronts with an in-frame design. The main units are painted in Little Greene’s Lamp Black, creating a striking contrast with the natural wood tones of the island. This thoughtful combination introduces depth and balance, blending modern style with organic elements to reflect the homeowners’ love of natural materials. Above the island, two open-weave rattan pendants bring subtle character to the space. By day, they diffuse natural light to keep the room bright and airy; at night, their intricate patterns create a cosy, layered atmosphere. This project highlights how considered design choices can elevate a kitchen into a functional, beautiful space that perfectly suits the needs and style of its owners.
