Adrienne DeRosaWhile renovating the master bedroom last year, the Mohrmans replaced the fireplace surround with white ceramic tile. Placed in a herringbone pattern, the tile and dark grout work together to lend a period feel to the room.
As with many renovations, there were some surprises along the way. "From what we could tell the mantle had never been removed", Chelsea explains. "We removed the mantle and found bits and pieces of photos, ticket stubs, coins, etc that had fallen back there over the years. Some of the items were dated back to the 1930’s." Being the eighth owners of the home, it was hard to tell whether there was something there from every previous owner, "... but we gathered it all, placed it in a tin, added our own piece, and placed it back inside the mantle as a time capsule for future owners to find in decades to come."

Cummings Architecture + InteriorsThe attic renovation of this First Period Ipswich, Massachusetts home (c. 1668) was inspired by English vernacular cottages of the Cotswolds. The clients wanted an additional bedroom and office space in their unused attic, while maintaining the authentic first period style of the rest of the house. This meant keeping the original roofline and low ceilings, giving the space a cozy feel. Structurally, the space needed some timber frame repair, and the original timbers were left exposed with white plaster for the Medieval English interior style. Cummings Architects paid close attention to utilizing the low ceiling height at the perimeter of the space and designed built-in storage that the clients’ previously lacked. A cozy reading nook and details like the interior window above the stairway, looking into the bedroom, changed the useless, dark attic into an intimate, personal space.

Segal & Wilmot Interior DesignThis is an eclectic bedroom we designed for a college girl to come home to. We started with the black and white fabric and the pink painted walls and ceiling. We added some antique and French furniture, some of which we reupholstered and repainted. The curtains and desk seat are covered in a print which picks up all of the colors. We added citron yellow as a "pop" color and made a few pillows for the bed and chair. The mirror and desk lamp gives it a slight deco look. The quilt on the end of the bed is an antique piece, as well as the desk and chairs.

Minimal furniture was used to so as not to encroach on the limited space and the metal accents really added to the luxe of this room.
