Our client had a 1930’s two car garage and a dream. He wanted a private light filled home office, enough space to have friends over to watch the game, storage for his record collection and a place to listen to music on the most impressive stereo we’ve ever seen. So we took on the challenge to design the ultimate man cave: we peeled away layers of the wall and folded them into casework - a workstation with drawers, record shelving with storage below for less aesthetic items, a credenza with a coffee setup and requisite bourbon collection, and a cabinet devoted to cleaning and preserving records. We peeled up the roof as well creating a new entry and views out into the bucolic garden. The addition of a full bathroom and comfy couch make this the perfect place to chill…with or without Netflix.

Our project at Boghall House located in Linlithgow, West Lothian was bijou project that involved delicately inserting a new structure within the existing stone walls of a former coal store. A new asymmetric hipped zinc roof neatly ties the intersecting roofs together and hovers lightly above a glazed clerestory, separating the traditional stonework from the new addition above. This sensitive intervention into the existing historic fabric allows the creation of a new home office space and entrance, all contained within the adjusted stone walls of the former Coal Store.

Moving up the stairs to the second floor, the full effect of the reconfigured floors and roofline is revealed. Thirteen foot ceilings created by a dormer addition, and a radically open-concept layout, create a personal oasis for the clients that blends program elements that are typically separated. Abandoning conventional layout constraints that didn’t suit how the clients like to live, allowed for a radical spatial reconfiguration. Areas for working, reading, bathing, and sleeping are woven together seamlessly within one cohesive space.

Har I hjemmekontor i stuen, er den rette indretning især vigtig. Med de rigtige møbler, kan du få følelsen af at sidde på et lukket kontor, selvom du sidder i stuen sammen med din familie. Det er mange smarte løsninger for et hjemmekontor, så det er bare med at finde den bedste løsning til din bolig.

Hvordan vælger jeg de bedste kontormøbler?

Bruger du kontoret som hjemmearbejdsplads, er det vigtigt at vælge de rigtige møbler. Prioritér dem efter hvor vigtige de er for din hverdag. I de fleste tilfælde er det et computerbord og en kontorstol. Du skal bruge dem hele dagen, så de kan være en ekstra investering værd. Dit skrivebord bør være stort nok til at du kan have alle dine værktøjer og papirer derpå. Materialet vil afspejle hvem du er, og dine behov. Overvej også et hæve sænke bord for, at skabe et sundere arbejdsmiljø. Vælg en ergonomisk korrekt kontorstol, så du bedst muligt beskytter dig selv mod vores moderne computerbaseret livsstil. Har du plads til det, kan det også være en god idé med en ekstra læne- eller læsestol, du kan bruge når du mangler en pause fra dit skrivebord.

Hvordan indretter jeg mit hjemmekontor?

Det er vigtigt at skabe den rette atmosfære på et kontor, så du kan opnå den arbejdsro, der er nødvendig for at have en hjemmearbejdsplads. Det skal være et rum, du har lyst til at opholde dig i hele dagen, hvorfor indretning af kontoret skal være optimal for dig. Dekorér med ting, der minder dig om et studie eller arbejdsmiljø, og vælg farver der motiverer dig til at arbejde. Nogle foretrækker lyse og naturlige farver, mens andre aktiveres bedst med skarpe detaljer og print på væggen. Sørg for at have godt lys på din arbejdsplads. Hvis du ikke har mulighed for naturligt lys, undersøg da hvilken type lampe, der giver dig det bedste lys, uden at irritere øjnene. Der er adskillige flotte, danske designer lamper til dit skrivebord, og helt sikkert også en er passer ind i din still. Husk også at organisere dit arbejde. Det kan være svært at få overblik over dine opgaver, hvis dit kontor roder. Investér i nogle arkivskabe, og skuffer. På den måde kan du let finde rundt i dit arbejde, og få mere ud af din tid på kontoret. Sæt prikken over i’et med nogle få nipsting til at stimulere hjernen. Så skaber du de bedst mulige omgivelser for både krop og sind i dit hjemmekontor.

Hvordan kan jeg få mere plads på mit kontor?

Der er svært at undgå papirer på ens kontor, om man bruger det hver dag, eller kun til at betale regninger. Derfor er det altid en god idé at have nok skabs- og arkivplads. Der er heldigvis mange løsninger for at få mere plads på hjemmekontoret. Afhængig af hvor meget plads og behov du har til opbevaring, er der arkivskabe, kassetter, skabe og hylder at vælge imellem. Almindelige og indbygget hylder er en elegant måde at fremvise bøger og pynteting, mens skuffer og arkivskabene er bedre egnet til de mere almene ting som papir og kontorartikler.
