After: Cherry wood "buffet" (was being used as sofa table) replaced the oak cabinet to enhance the cherry wood floor accent in the dining room, and open the wall for artwork and inspiration.

The dining room was turned into a library and dining room. The wall on the right was an obvious wall for a china cabinet, but it felt too oppressive. Instead we surrounded the windows with built ins, which provided storage below sill level and display above.

This beautiful historic building was constructed in 1893 and was originally occupied by the Calgary Herald, the oldest running newspaper in the city. Since then, a lot of great stories have been shared in this space and the current restaurateurs have developed the most suitable concept; FinePrint. It denotes an elusive balance between sophistication and simplicity, refinement and fun.
Our design intent was to create a restaurant that felt polished, yet inviting and comfortable for all guests to enjoy. The custom designed details throughout were carefully curated to embrace the historical character of the building and to set the tone for great new stories and to celebrate all of life’s occasions.

Butler's pantry between the kitchen and the dining room offers a great convenient place to serve when entertaining. It also is a perfect spot to display serving ware that is used on special occasions. White inset cabinets and brittanicca quartz countertops work nicely together to bring a classic feel to this new construction home.

Two bookcase/display cabinets and a corner china cabinet with concealed LED lighting. The tops, adjustable wood shelves, cabinet bottoms, and the door frame are made of solid Honduran mahogany reclaimed from the homeowner's mother's dining table, adding a respectful heirloom aspect to the project. The laser engraved star pattern on the top borders was designed to complement a beautiful hand-stenciled design on a console cabinet in the adjacent room. The bases were made with an Asian-influenced design to reflect the style of many other items in the home from the homeowner's years of working in Asia. The top surfaces and the solid mahogany bases were stained ebony to coordinate with the dining table and to provide a color break between the floor and the cabinets. All the other mahogany is simply clear coated to highlight the beautiful color and iridescence of mahogany.
The tops and front and side borders were assembled using lock miter construction. We extend special thanks and recognition to Trefoil Laser Services, Inc. of Greensboro, NC (www.trefoillaser.com) for the beautiful and precise laser engraving on the top borders.
