The modest kitchen was left in its original location and configuration, but outfitted with beautiful mahogany cabinets that are period appropriate for the circumstances of the home's construction. The combination of overlay drawers and inset doors was common for the period, and also inspired by original Evans' working drawings which had been found in Vienna at a furniture manufacturer that had been selected to provide furnishings for the Rose Eisendrath House in nearby Tempe, Arizona, around 1930.
Fireclay Tile
Fireclay's handmade tiles are perfect for visually maximizing smaller spaces. For these condo dwellers, mustard yellow kitchen tiles along the backsplash infuse the space with warmth and charm.

Nulla Vale is a small dwelling and shed located on a large former grazing site. The structure anticipates a more permanent home to be built at some stage in the future. Early settler homes and rural shed types are referenced in the design.
The Shed and House are identical in their overall dimensions and from a distance, their silhouette is the familiar gable ended form commonly associated with farming sheds. Up close, however, the two structures are clearly defined as shed and house through the material, void, and volume. The shed was custom designed by us directly with a shed fabrication company using their systems to create a shed that is part storage part entryways. Clad entirely in heritage grade corrugated galvanized iron with a roof oriented and pitched to maximize solar exposure through the seasons.
The House is constructed from salvaged bricks and corrugated iron in addition to rough sawn timber and new galvanized roofing on pre-engineered timber trusses that are left exposed both inside and out. Materials were selected to meet the clients’ brief that house fit within the cognitive idea of an ‘old shed’. Internally the finishes are the same as outside, no plasterboard and no paint. LED lighting strips concealed on top of the rafters reflect light off the foil-backed insulation. The house provides the means to eat, sleep and wash in a space that is part of the experience of being on the site and not removed from it.

We combined walnut base cabinets with semi- gloss white upper cabinets in this micro kitchen in Chelsea. We used custom millwork with built in appliances to make the most of the space.

Located in the up and coming neighbourhood of Forest Hill, this renovation demonstrates that being smart with your money doesn’t have to come at the expense of quality. For the first stage of the renovation, we opened up their ground floor space, creating an open-plan layout for both their kitchen, dining room, and living area. But there’s more to this space than meets the eye. Interior fans will admire the concrete floor used throughout, but rather than the real deal, these savvy homeowners have opted for concrete tiles. This slashed the price of flooring in half, and avoided a time consuming process of laying fresh concrete. On top of this, the tiles are easier to heat, meaning no cold feet in the morning.
But this isn’t the only trick they’ve employed. One of the stand out features of this kitchen is easily the wonderful crittall style doors and windows - notice we said 'style'? That’s because this home opted for aluminium frames, rather than steel. Crittall steel is trademarked, and can only be produced by one company, this means premium prices and a long waiting list. By opting for a top notch fake, this kitchen still gets the WOW factor, but without the price tag.
For the rest of home, we helped lay out new floor plans for each level. Moving the bedrooms and main bathroom from the ground floor and up to the top of the house. We added in recessed storage into the showers to save on space, and included a walk in closet for the master bedroom. And finally, for those rainy days, we created two open, yet separate, living areas. Perfect for when these homeowners want to do their own thing to wind down.

Loft kitchens are always tricky since they are usually very small and most don’t have much cabinet space.
Going against the standard design of opening the kitchen to the common area here we decided to close off a wall to allow additional cabinets to be installed.
2 large pantries were installed in the end of the kitchen for extra storage, a laundry enclosure was built to house the stackable washer/dryer unit and in the center of it all we have a large tall window to allow natural light to wash the space with light.
The modern cabinets have an integral pulls design to give them a clean look without any hardware showing.
Two tones, dark wood for bottom and tall cabinet and white for upper cabinets give this narrow galley kitchen a sensation of space.
tying it all together is the long narrow rectangular gray/brown lime stone backsplash.
