Doug Walter ArchitectAs large as this master bedroom is, it's smaller than the 22x23 feet it started, as we carved out about 6 feet to the right for his and her walk in closets. To counter the low feeling of an 8 foot ceiling in a large space, we carved a coffer out of the attic over, and uplit it behind cove molding, in addition to strategic downlighting.

Summer Thornton Design, IncA mix of patterns, colors and styles work together to create a bright, fresh bedroom that never stops surprising. Striped green walls continue from the hallway and are interrupted by floor to ceiling windows with dark floral draperies. A cheetah print rug provides the perfect base for a green upholstered bed and a blue velvet chaise. The bed is flanked by two coral lacquered tables which are mirrored across the room in the form of a matching set of coral chairs with a fun patterned ottoman.

Metrical DesignUse of the same enveloping and engaging colour for walls, ceilings and built in joinery gives this bedroom a dramatic feel, and contrary to popular belief, the dark ceiling actually makes the room feel larger than if you were to have a standard white ceiling. This allows the bright brass chandelier and artistic mural to shine through as the key features of the room. Light from the chandelier creates a delicate pattern across the ceiling and tops of the walls, creating quite a magical effect.
