This elegant living room forms part of a calm, open-plan layout, designed to feel both inviting and effortlessly refined. A soft neutral palette is layered with warm textures and subtle accents, creating a space that feels balanced and comfortable for everyday living. The layout centres around a contemporary fireplace, with carefully arranged seating encouraging conversation while maintaining a sense of openness and flow. A considered lighting scheme, combining recessed lighting with decorative pendants and wall lights, enhances the atmosphere from day to evening. Furnishings and artwork have been thoughtfully curated to add depth and personality without overwhelming the space, resulting in a cohesive, modern interior that feels timeless, functional and quietly sophisticated.

In the living room we chose a rich, autumnal palette of teal, mustard and rust – inspired by the stunning full length curtains. This jewel green hue is a stunning backdrop to the warmer colours. A cosy cream rug and brushed brass metal lighten the space. We kept their existing art, which also inspired the sunset tones, and their large footstool was re-upholstered in a textured rust linen. In the hallway a slightly paler shade of teal was chosen to paint the lower half of the walls, leaving neutral on the top half to lighten the look. An alternative colour of the curtain fabic has been used for the blind, so the space flows well. The show stopper here is the organic inspired wooden hanging pendant, which casts beautiful shapes and shadows at night. The couple tell me how they are proud of the spaces and their guests always remark when they visit.

This luxury family home living room in Hertfordshire was designed as part of a full-home renovation and full-service residential interior design project by By Two Studio. The space combines bespoke cabinetry, integrated shelving and a modern recessed fireplace to create a calm, elegant focal point tailored to modern family living. A soft neutral palette, layered lighting and carefully curated styling introduce warmth and quiet sophistication, while the symmetrical joinery design enhances balance and visual continuity throughout the interior. Integrated LED lighting, bespoke storage solutions and open-plan flow ensure the room feels both highly functional and effortlessly refined. Designed to support everyday family life while maintaining a timeless aesthetic, the result is a modern luxury living room that balances practicality with understated elegance within a cohesive luxury family home.

This family wanted a complete refresh of their neutral living room – everything changed except for the walls and artwork! Their kitchen design had made them bolder with colour and this influenced their choices for the living room. An old 90s fireplace was removed and the layout was flipped around for better seating arrangment. I designed a new media unit housing a wide electric fire on one wall, with textured wallpaper in the alcoves either side. Walls, architrave and skirting were painted in this soothing olive green. The same colour was taken onto the old white pvc patio doors which has totally transformed them. Black crittall style doors give an industrial modern feel which is echoed in the bookcase, sideboard and the artwork. A cosy corner sofa, footstool and knotted rug make the space cosy and inviting. Two beautiful accent chairs provide extra seating. Plenty of textures, brushed brass and accents of rust and ochre add warmth to the space. The family can hardly remember their old living room and simply love relaxing in here.
