Kitchen MagicResiding in Philadelphia, it only seemed natural for a blue and white color scheme. The combination of Satin White and Colonial Blue creates instant drama in this refaced kitchen. Cambria countertop in Weybourne, include a waterfall side on the peninsula that elevate the design. An elegant backslash in a taupe ceramic adds a subtle backdrop.

Studio DearbornA young family moving from NYC tackled a makeover of their young colonial revival home to make it feel more personal. The kitchen area was quite spacious but needed a facelift and a banquette for breakfast. Painted cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter is balanced by Benjamin Moore Ocean Floor on the island. Mixed metals on the lighting by Allied Maker, faucets and hardware and custom tile by Pratt and Larson make the space feel organic and personal. Photos Adam Macchia. Anna Gartland InteriorsWe reconfigured the kitchen to maximize the light and the view. The sink and window were previously facing the next door neighbor's garage, so that became the range wall and the window was relocated to face the beautiful trees and rock formations in the back yard. A full light exterior entry door was added in place of the former door to let natural light flood the space. Ceiling, which had previously been lowered to hide electrical work, was taken back up to original height and smoothed. Layered recess lighting and a glass pendant over the sink further increase brightness in what was previously a very dark space. Custom moody gray-blue inset shaker cabinetry is paired with elongated handmade matte white tile backsplash, alongside white quartz, pale blue walls and off-white trim. Quartersawn white oak floors replace the old linoleum and blend beautifully with the original pine floors on the rest of the first floor. Warm brass hardware and fixtures are a lovely contrast against the dark cabinetry. A fluted white fireclay farm sink is a functional statement piece in a small space. An Acacia wood island with stainless steel top adds practical warmth. Period-appropriate moulding was brought back into the modern kitchen to maintain the historic integrity of the home.
Haven Design and ConstructionThe kitchen in this Mid Century Modern home is a true showstopper. The designer expanded the original kitchen footprint and doubled the kitchen in size. The walnut dividing wall and walnut cabinets are hallmarks of the original mid century design, while a mix of deep blue cabinets provide a more modern punch. The triangle shape is repeated throughout the kitchen in the backs of the counter stools, the ends of the waterfall island, the light fixtures, the clerestory windows, and the walnut dividing wall.
Ali AttenboroughWe designed a modern classic scheme for Sarah's family that would be practical everyday but also offer a social mood for evening entertaining. We blended smart prussion blue cabinetry and walls for a smart and connected feel. To lift the scheme we included soft white, ivory, warm wood, rustic surfaces and distressed tile patterns. We incorporated their existing dining furniture into a sensible layout, but up-cycled the seat pads with free coffee sacks. Sarah's collection of vintage treasures were used to beautiful effect in a curated wall shelf display.

We reconfigured the kitchen and family room by adding a small addition in the family room and stacking doors. In the kitchen we moved the cooktop off of the island and refrigerator to another wall which expand the cooking countertop.

With custom cabinetry and center island painted “Railings” by Farrow & Ball, Silestone's "Calacatta Gold Suede" 2” thick quartz countertops, Thermador appliances, clean white subway tile backsplash, and two beautiful antique brass finished “Eugene” pendant light fixtures.
Jennifer Butler DesignDouble islands serve double duty for the busy residents and their large (27 grandchildren, and counting!) family. The 2” quartz tops are from Dwyer Marble & Stone, with chandeliers by Hubbardton Forge.
