Karyn Dismore InteriorsDark, dated and dingy - now transformed after this home was flooded into a light, bright and beautiful space. The shower in this space was closed in on all three sides with a low and suffocating ceiling. We raised the ceiling, put a window in the wall that allowed all the natural light in and now we have a bright and breezy shower. Dated ceramic tile floors gave way to a beautiful marble and capiz shell inlay that makes everyone who walks on it feel like a star. Oversized vanity mirrors with beautiful gold and glass sconces make the room feel that much larger. The Built in towel warmer in the built in takes the pampered luxury of this space to the next level as does the freestanding airjetted tub.
moico inc.In order to make the bathroom function better and gain more space, the original radiator was removed and replaced with in-floor heating, and a hot water heated towel warmer. The window surround is quartz so it can serve s a shelf in the shower.

What’s the next best thing to a tropical vacation in the middle of a Chicago winter? Well, how about a tropical themed bath that works year round? The goal of this bath was just that, to bring some fun, whimsy and tropical vibes!
We started out by making some updates to the built in bookcase leading into the bath. It got an easy update by removing all the stained trim and creating a simple arched opening with a few floating shelves for a much cleaner and up-to-date look. We love the simplicity of this arch in the space.
Now, into the bathroom design. Our client fell in love with this beautiful handmade tile featuring tropical birds and flowers and featuring bright, vibrant colors. We played off the tile to come up with the pallet for the rest of the space. The cabinetry and trim is a custom teal-blue paint that perfectly picks up on the blue in the tile. The gold hardware, lighting and mirror also coordinate with the colors in the tile.
Because the house is a 1930’s tudor, we played homage to that by using a simple black and white hex pattern on the floor and retro style hardware that keep the whole space feeling vintage appropriate. We chose a wall mount unpolished brass hardware faucet which almost gives the feel of a tropical fountain. It just works. The arched mirror continues the arch theme from the bookcase.
For the shower, we chose a coordinating antique white tile with the same tropical tile featured in a shampoo niche where we carefully worked to get a little bird almost standing on the niche itself. We carried the gold fixtures into the shower, and instead of a shower door, the shower features a simple hinged glass panel that is easy to clean and allows for easy access to the shower controls.

RIKB Design BuildThis stunning compact master bath features many neutral, yet classic finishes. The surrounding simple white subway tile ties into the natural marble floor tile, soft gray vanity and paint color. The use of niches and recessed medicine cabinet really enhances the storage and functionality of the space.
Jordan Design-Build GroupThe original bathroom on the main floor had an odd Jack-and-Jill layout with two toilets, two vanities and only a single tub/shower (in vintage mint green, no less). With some creative modifications to existing walls and the removal of a small linen closet, we were able to divide the space into two functional bathrooms – one of them now a true en suite master.
In the master bathroom we chose a soothing palette of warm grays – the geometric floor tile was laid in a random pattern adding to the modern minimalist style. The slab front vanity has a mid-century vibe and feels at place in the home. Storage space is always at a premium in smaller bathrooms so we made sure there was ample countertop space and an abundance of drawers in the vanity. While calming grays were welcome in the bathroom, a saturated pop of color adds vibrancy to the master bedroom and creates a vibrant backdrop for furnishings.
