Drawing on inspiration from resort style open bathrooms, particularly like the ones you find in Bali, we adapted this philosophy and brought it to the next level and made the bedroom into a private retreat quarter.

Master Bath in this San Rafael home brings the ocean inside for a couple that enjoys scuba-diving all over the world. The zinc vanity and tower they selected anchor the room over the marble look porcelain tiles they sit upon like ships. The shower and bathtub areas surrounded by the same tiles, accented in real etched marble features and collections remind these owners of the seas they have immersed themselves in and places they have visited. This bath wall color was carefully selected to remind them of the oceans gentle motion surrounding them for a relaxing getaway whenever they are at home.

This bathroom was once home to a free standing home a top a marble slab--ill designed and rarely used. The new space has a large tiled shower and geometric floor. The single bowl trough sink is a nod to this homeowner's love of farmhouse style. The mirrors slide across to reveal medicine cabinet storage.
Aiki Homes
Elegant half bathroom with powdered bronze fixtures, custom sink, cabinetry, and lighting.
This custom, sustainably built, three story home has a clean and classic design with an open layout -- the main, top floor leading to an expanse of windows that overlook Bellingham Bay. Built on a steep slope, the bottom two floors face out to the bay and lead to a patio and back yard.

The double vanity has upper cabinets that separate the two sinks and gives much needed storage. The toilet area is reflected in the mirror.

The bathroom was transformed into a standout feature of the cottage.
A custom curved floating mirror with backlighting was designed and created, showcasing unique wallpaper.
Shower tile design catered to the client's love for ceramics and featured flowing patterns leading towards brass fixtures.
A central focal point was the custom vanity, meticulously crafted with hand-laid wood and an attention-grabbing design.
From removing windows, adding french and dutch doors, to adding a new closet with a sliding custom door. The wallpaper was the inspiration of the space with texture grass cloth and custom painting. The furniture and textures, as well as styling in the space was a great touch to finish off the design.

The challenge was to create a modern, minimalist structure that did not interfere with the natural setting but rather seemed nestled in and part of the landscape while blurring the lines between interior and exterior spaces.
Special Features and Details:
• wood floor, ceiling and exterior deck all run in the same direction drawing the eye toward the water view below
• valence encompassing the living space aligns with the face of the loft floor and conceals window shades and uplighting.
• pocket doors are flush with the ceiling adding to the feeling of one room flowing into the other when the doors are open
• ample storage tucks into the walls unobtrusively
• baseboards are set in, flush with the walls separated by a channel detail.
• deck appears to float, creating a sense of weightlessness. This detail repeats at the bedside tables and bathroom vanity
• obscured glass window in shower provides light and privacy
Amy Carman Design
When planning this custom residence, the owners had a clear vision – to create an inviting home for their family, with plenty of opportunities to entertain, play, and relax and unwind. They asked for an interior that was approachable and rugged, with an aesthetic that would stand the test of time. Amy Carman Design was tasked with designing all of the millwork, custom cabinetry and interior architecture throughout, including a private theater, lower level bar, game room and a sport court. A materials palette of reclaimed barn wood, gray-washed oak, natural stone, black windows, handmade and vintage-inspired tile, and a mix of white and stained woodwork help set the stage for the furnishings. This down-to-earth vibe carries through to every piece of furniture, artwork, light fixture and textile in the home, creating an overall sense of warmth and authenticity.
