Background/description: The house was built in 1908, my clients are only the 3rd owners of the house. The prior owner lived there from 1940s until she died at age of 98! The old home had loads of character and charm but was in pretty bad condition and desperately needed updates. The clients purchased the home a few years ago and did some work before they moved in (roof, HVAC, electrical) but decided to live in the house for a 6 months or so before embarking on the next renovation phase. I had worked with the clients previously on the wife's office space and a few projects in a previous home including the nursery design for their first child so they reached out when they were ready to start thinking about the interior renovations. The goal was to respect and enhance the historic architecture of the home but make the spaces more functional for this couple with two small kids. Clients were open to color and some more bold/unexpected design choices. The design style is updated traditional with some eclectic elements. An early design decision was to incorporate a dark colored french range which would be the focal point of the kitchen and to do dark high gloss lacquered cabinets in the adjacent coffee bar, and we ultimately went with dark green.

Fixture locations did not change in the design, exterior walls were insulated. Basic architectural components like the shower arch were retained in this superb design by Liz Schupanitz with masterful tile installation by Hohn & Hohn. Cabinets by Frost Cabinets. Martins Camisuli ArchitectsWhat struck us strange about this property was that it was a beautiful period piece but with the darkest and smallest kitchen considering it's size and potential. We had a quite a few constrictions on the extension but in the end we managed to provide a large bright kitchen/dinning area with direct access to a beautiful garden and keeping the 'new ' in harmony with the existing building. We also expanded a small cellar into a large and functional Laundry room with a cloakroom bathroom.

Studio FabbriReconfiguration of a dilapidated bathroom and separate toilet in a Victorian house in Walthamstow village.
The original toilet was situated straight off of the landing space and lacked any privacy as it opened onto the landing. The original bathroom was separate from the WC with the entrance at the end of the landing. To get to the rear bedroom meant passing through the bathroom which was not ideal. The layout was reconfigured to create a family bathroom which incorporated a walk-in shower where the original toilet had been and freestanding bath under a large sash window. The new bathroom is slightly slimmer than the original this is to create a short corridor leading to the rear bedroom.
The ceiling was removed and the joists exposed to create the feeling of a larger space. A rooflight sits above the walk-in shower and the room is flooded with natural daylight. Hanging plants are hung from the exposed beams bringing nature and a feeling of calm tranquility into the space.
West One Bathrooms LtdSimple, tactile and statement. This top floor room had plenty of natural light thanks to the Velux windows. Finishes were a massive part of the interest in this bathroom. The room was so bright anyway, so we thought we’d have fun and play with the black fittings, brushed copper brassware and concrete basin, tying it all together with the most fabulous porcelain terrazzo effect tile.
Prior to the renovation, the space wasn’t being used to its best. There were lots of empty areas where product just fitted but didn’t add anything to the room and the Velux windows felt as though they were an issue rather than becoming part of the space.
