Renaissance Design StudioThis custom family home was built in 2000. The 4 kids have grown into teenagers so Mom decided it was time for an elegant yet functional renovation for her to enjoy. The end result is a functional repurposing of the space with a lighter color palette and a fresh updated look.
Cummings Architecture + InteriorsLike many older homes, this 18th century Amherst, NH property had seen several additions and renovations through the years. Working within the existing structure, Cummings Architects reconfigured the floor plan and created an elegant master suite and a bright and functional laundry room as the first phase of the project. The newly renovated spaces complement the farmhouse style of the oldest portions of the house, while giving the homeowners the modern conveniences of today.

HomeSource BuildersLaundry/mud room. With a focus on their passions of beekeeping and herb gardening, this retired couple saw potential in this rural home they bought in 2013. They asked us for suggestions on how best to enclose and expand a breezeway from the home to the garage to include two stories, add a room over the garage, and nearly double the size of the kitchen. The lowered “biscuit counter” in the island is an ideal height for rolling out dough and getting help from the grandkids. Pantry access is through a screen door. Load-bearing walls were removed, the stairway was reconstructed, the previous breezeway was transformed into a small bathroom and a mud/laundry space. Above that was added another small bathroom, an herb prep room, complete with a stove, double sink and small fridge, plus another bedroom. Exterior drainage issues also needed attention, so we dug out along the back of the home, added French drains to evacuate the excess water, plus and a small, rock retaining wall.

By reorienting rooms and using their existing space more creatively, we were able to achieve all their wishes. This comprehensive 8 month renovation included:
1-removal of a wall between the kitchen and old dining room to double the kitchen space.
2-closure of a window in the family room to reorient the flow and create a 186" long bookcase/storage/tv area with seating now facing the new kitchen.
3-a dry bar
4-a dining area in the kitchen/family room
5-total re-think of the laundry room to get them organized and increase storage/functionality
6-moving the dining room location and office
7-new ledger stone fireplace
8-enlarged opening to new dining room and custom iron handrail and balusters
9-2,000 sf of new 5" plank red oak flooring in classic grey color with color ties on ceiling in family room to match

Reico Kitchen & BathDavid Betsy of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Wilmington, DE in collaboration with Jason Adamski General Contracting, designed a modern inspired shaker style kitchen and laundry area featuring Green Forest Cabinetry in the Park Place door style.
The kitchen wall cabinets and the laundry cabinets feature a White finish, with the kitchen base cabinets in a Norfolk Blue finish.
David shared, "This project was challenging. The home had a 1.5" difference in ceiling height from front right to back left. Additionally, a 3" X 3" plumbing chase in the corner of the kitchen limited space and options, making it difficult to design a functional kitchen triangle. Effective communication between the contractor, client, and our team at Reico was crucial to navigate the challenges presented by a house built in 1860."
