Reap ConstructionThis home in the Mad River Valley measures just a tad over 1,000 SF and was inspired by the book The Not So Big House by Sarah Suskana. Some notable features are the dyed and polished concrete floors, bunk room that sleeps six, and an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings in the living space.

Benedict DesignThe living room is housed within the new rear extension, formed as a gable structure with vaulted ceilings. It steps down again from the kitchen ad dining to further enhance the play of space in the additions.
A piece of integrated joinery separates the two levels, providing a mixture of storage and a place to sit up top.

Virtuoso BuildersThis home was too dark and brooding for the homeowners, so we came in and warmed up the space. With the use of large windows to accentuate the view, as well as hardwood with a lightened clay colored hue, the space became that much more welcoming. We kept the industrial roots without sacrificing the integrity of the house but still giving it that much needed happier makeover.

Saikley ArchitectsWhole-house remodel and addition. Our clients love gardening and bought this house for its unusually large yard and privacy. We added a large family room, kitchen and master suite which are all designed to feel surrounded by the garden, and to create good outdoor places, while not intruding too much into the garden.
Sightlines through the house are an important driver of the design. High clerestory windows of several types give a sense of connection to the sky as well, and integrate with vaulted ceilings of various shapes.
The house is a mix of styles and types of materials, full of color and whimsy. Saikley Architects worked closely with the clients to shape the space and to allow for the clients’ choices beautiful materials inside and outside. The house is heated by a radiant hydronic system.
