Balancing act! The elongated table in this sitting area in the main living room is offset to allow for passage from the fireplace area. Notice how the table is not centered in the window. The asymmetrical positioning is minimized by centering the dark, elongated painting in the middle of the window. As well, an ottoman is positioned under the table, and is pushed to the left, which also is balanced by the contrasting painting in the center of the window above it.

This window treatment actually is composed of five layers. The silhouette window shading controls light and privacy. The rusty red silk drapery panel balances the window in the room. The seafoam green color of the cascade accents the drapery panel and speaks to the cornice. The brushed gold drapery rod and marble finials add texture and sparkle to the fabrics. The banded upholstered cornice repeats the print of the sofa and ties everything together. This is a great example of an asymmetrical design.

Laura chose a tortoise print fabric for the sitting room chairs by the piano, which were repurposed. The fabric line is from Spain and was used to incorporate an island theme in the small space.

This family's guests dine poolside or in one of several verandas overlooking the water, so in lieu of an unused formal dining room, a stellar Game Room was designed. Keeping in the style of a Victorian retreat, this space boasts antique pine wall paneling, with upholstered acoustic wall panels. Play pool , shuffle board, or Wii (with room to dance of course). The wood panel doors adjacent to the pool table open into the home theatre. The light above those doors allows for sign inserts to show their house guests what movie will be viewed! The far end of the room is flanked by two set of double doors and gets a perfect cross breeze for the cigar lounge.

Salon like setting where intelligent conversation, good food, good books, and good wine are shared. The room features a group of 19th century paintings, rush matting floor covering, and 19th century lounge chairs in muslin.
