Howard Bankston & PostThe custom fireplace surround features a rough mantle salvaged from an old historic building in Georgia, and hand-painted tiles in the traditional Swedish style, commissioned by the owner. The hearth stone came from a demolished French chateau.
Landis Architects | BuildersThis is a brand new Bungalow house we Designed & Built.
Our customer had a pretty clear vision of what he wanted: a well designed, well constructed Bungalow to blend into the neighborhood. In addition to fidelity to the Craftsman spirit and ideals, our client required the integration of sustainable design principles, energy efficiency and quality throughout. He also wanted to recreate the dimension and feel of his living/dining room complex in his Mount Pleasant home.
The homeowner’s initial request of 2400 square feet did not accommodate the design program’s requirements. At the completion of design, the project had expanded to 4500 square ft. Care was taken during design of the home to ensure that the massing was both in keeping with the neighborhood and the Bungalow aesthetic. Instead of going up, the home extends inconspicuously toward the rear of the lot.

Saikley ArchitectsThis project is the rebuild of a classic Craftsman bungalow that had been destroyed in a fire. Throughout the design process we balanced the creation of a house that would feel like a true home, to replace the one that had been lost, while managing a budget with challenges from the insurance company, and navigating through a complex approval process.

Nathan Taylor for Obelisk HomeThis newly built Old Mission style home gave little in concessions in regards to historical accuracies. To create a usable space for the family, Obelisk Home provided finish work and furnishings but in needed to keep with the feeling of the home. The coffee tables bunched together allow flexibility and hard surfaces for the girls to play games on. New paint in historical sage, window treatments in crushed velvet with hand-forged rods, leather swivel chairs to allow “bird watching” and conversation, clean lined sofa, rug and classic carved chairs in a heavy tapestry to bring out the love of the American Indian style and tradition.

Devon Grace InteriorsIn the living room, floor to ceiling windows frame the space and create a bright and inviting feel. We introduced a palette of deep grey, blue, and rich cognac furniture that maintain a modern feel with their low profiles and clean lines.
Mark Brand ArchitectureFor our client, who had previous experience working with architects, we enlarged, completely gutted and remodeled this Twin Peaks diamond in the rough. The top floor had a rear-sloping ceiling that cut off the amazing view, so our first task was to raise the roof so the great room had a uniformly high ceiling. Clerestory windows bring in light from all directions. In addition, we removed walls, combined rooms, and installed floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall sliding doors in sleek black aluminum at each floor to create generous rooms with expansive views. At the basement, we created a full-floor art studio flooded with light and with an en-suite bathroom for the artist-owner. New exterior decks, stairs and glass railings create outdoor living opportunities at three of the four levels. We designed modern open-riser stairs with glass railings to replace the existing cramped interior stairs. The kitchen features a 16 foot long island which also functions as a dining table. We designed a custom wall-to-wall bookcase in the family room as well as three sleek tiled fireplaces with integrated bookcases. The bathrooms are entirely new and feature floating vanities and a modern freestanding tub in the master. Clean detailing and luxurious, contemporary finishes complete the look.

Allen & James Interior DesignStephanie James: “Understanding the client’s style preferences, we sought out timeless pieces that also offered a little bling. The room is open to multiple dining and living spaces and the scale of the furnishings by Chaddock, Ambella, Wesley Hall and Mr. Brown and lighting by John Richards and Visual Comfort were very important. The living room area with its vaulted ceilings created a need for dramatic fixtures and furnishings to complement the scale. The mixture of textiles and leather offer comfortable seating options whether for a family gathering or an intimate evening with a book.”
