BARRETT STUDIO architectsPine Perch commands dramatic views to the eastern plains, from the Pine Brook Hills community just west of Boulder. Nestled into a sloping foothills site, the home is a lively beginning for a newly married couple and their visiting children and grandchildren.
The continuation of materials from interior to exterior creates visually engaging indoor-outdoor connections. Structural stone walls extend from living spaces to outside buttressed walls, and steel ceiling beams ascend continuously from the Great Room to the uplifted shed roof outdoors. Corner window walls further help to “break the container” of living in this natural setting.
Centered on food and good times, this sun-filled home expresses an uplifting spirit that the couple enthusiastically celebrates as life’s next chapter. The aesthetic is eclectic, while comfortably modern in its local response to site and materiality.

This is a rental log home that is just a few minutes walk from Maine Street in Hendersonville, NC. This log home is also at the start of the new Ecusta bike trail that connects Hendersonville, NC, to Brevard, NC.
Jordan Design-Build GroupThe existing great room got some major updates as well to ensure that the adjacent space was stylistically cohesive. The upgrades include new/reconfigured windows and trim, a dramatic fireplace makeover, new hardwood floors, and a flexible dining room area. Similar finishes were repeated here with brass sconces, a craftsman style fireplace mantle, and the same honed marble for the fireplace hearth and surround.
Studio SteidleyEvery once in a while we get a client who wants a color palette as lively as their personality and that is exactly what we had with this fun client! Using her existing rug as inspiration, we played off the bright and bold colors of it to create this beautiful Great Room with some added elements of surprise. These Rowe Thatcher chairs have a little "business in the front, party in the back" vibe with their creative backsides and the updated fireplace surround with cement tiles with an intricate pattern creates interest in what could be an uninteresting element. Brightly colored pillows and art add pops of color to the neutral palette on the walls and sofa. Lastly, this client loves to decorate with birds and these colorful drapes in her adjoining dining area have hidden birds on them. How cool is that?! Life is too short to live in a dull space!
