Stairs with classic and hard-wearing stair runner and maximised under stair storage
nC2 architecture llc
Conversion of a 4-family brownstone to a 3-family. The focus of the project was the renovation of the owner's apartment, including an expansion from a duplex to a triplex. The design centers around a dramatic two-story space which integrates the entry hall and stair with a library, a small desk space on the lower level and a full office on the upper level. The office is used as a primary work space by one of the owners - a writer, whose ideal working environment is one where he is connected with the rest of the family. This central section of the house, including the writer's office, was designed to maximize sight lines and provide as much connection through the spaces as possible. This openness was also intended to bring as much natural light as possible into this center portion of the house; typically the darkest part of a rowhouse building.

My client had recently downsized into an urban townhouse. The brief was to create something bright and fun. I decided to put together a subtle coastal feel with lots of natural linens, slipcovered chairs and washed oak. Juxtaposing this with contemporary lighting and bold patterns, the outcome is relaxed and eclectic.
Custom Stair Runners
My clients love for stripes coupled with the need of something that didn't exist in the stair runner market. There you have it!

The iron balusters in this staircase were chosen to match the home’s breathtaking interior architectural moldings, European feel, and to reflect the master craftsmen of centuries past. The pattern selected for the balconies and stacked stairs provides a sleek appearance that strikes a perfect balance between traditional and contemporary in this luxurious home; the Century Stair Team was able to identify and solve building and fabrication standards while maintaining the integrity of the builder’s original concept.CSC 1976-2020 © Century Stair Company ® All rights reserved.

Upon entering this home from the front door one of the first things you see is this oversized carved wood door which conceals a wine refrigerator and dry wine rack and humidor. The backside of the door was finished in chalkboard paint and cork.
The mixture of flooring materials and the iron vine staircase was existing to the home and we simply augmented these artistic aspects to create a cohesive space.
