Back Bay, Rooftop/Kitchen Garden
Jean Brooks LandscapesJean Brooks Landscapes
This garden takes advantage of the chimney tops and attics spaces of the urban landscape of the Back Bay- we refer to it as "Mary-Poppinsville". Split in to two areas- seating and dinning/cooking. shrubs, perennials, annuals, and edibles including: herbs, tomatoes, The client is a gourmet chef and uses the foods in his cooking. With limited space, the most popular edible plants that clients ask for are tomatoes and herbs because the herbs can be used in daily cooking and theres nothing to compare to the homegrown tomato. Where space is generous, we also plant blueberries strawberries, raspberries, lettuces, peppers.

HNA Hardscape Project Award Winner Savageau Residence Omaha, Nebraska Paver Designs, LLC Paver Designs LLC developed a renovation plan of the patio and pool deck which was a mishmash of stamped concrete, concrete pavers, and clay pavers. A rotting cedar tie wall also needed to be replaced. A plan included a water/fire feature flowing into the pool, a grill/bar island, stone fire place, and a fire boulder. The homeowners concrete pavers and stone for the walls. Planters were cut into the walls to create character and soften the hardscape. A flowing inlay that connected the patio "nook" area to the pool deck was hand drawn onto the field with chalk. Once all agreed on the design, the pavers were cut and a sealer was used to differentiate colors to the inlay. LED uplights highlight the walls and fire features.

Softly glowing in the evening light, this stunning obelisk is actually standing in four feet of snow! Regardless of the season in Minneapolis, or the snow level, you can have and enjoy beautiful outdoor lighting in your landscape. Year-round, attraction lighting becomes a dual complimenting asset in either your front or back yard. You can see here, how the small trees branches are also highlighted. When this tree is leafed out, it will be a gorgeous interplay of color, shadow, and soft movement.

Just because you live in the desert, doesn't mean that cacti are your only plant option. In this backyard, none of the plants are going to pierce your fingers. Drip irrigation saves water and provides the drought tolerant plantings with the necessary moisture. Color comes from shrubs such as yellow bells and orange jubilee and perennials like Ruellia throughout the scorching summer. In the fall, the leaves of the crepe myrtle trees turn bright red and in winter heavenly bamboo provides a wonderful display of reds and oranges.
