The local homeowner’s association specified that only ten percent of the roofline could be flat, a general contradiction to modern architecture. The design team worked to craft a harmonious home that has a traditional shape yet remains very modern in its detail. A gently pitched roof is complimented with sharp edges and a contemporary slate finish. Photo: Roger Davies

Nestled into sloping topography, the design of this home allows privacy from the street while providing unique vistas throughout the house and to the surrounding hill country and downtown skyline. Layering rooms with each other as well as circulation galleries, insures seclusion while allowing stunning downtown views. The owners' goals of creating a home with a contemporary flow and finish while providing a warm setting for daily life was accomplished through mixing warm natural finishes such as stained wood with gray tones in concrete and local limestone. The home's program also hinged around using both passive and active green features. Sustainable elements include geothermal heating/cooling, rainwater harvesting, spray foam insulation, high efficiency glazing, recessing lower spaces into the hillside on the west side, and roof/overhang design to provide passive solar coverage of walls and windows. The resulting design is a sustainably balanced, visually pleasing home which reflects the lifestyle and needs of the clients. Photography by Adam Steiner

We love to collaborate, whenever and wherever the opportunity arises. For this mountainside retreat, we entered at a unique point in the process—to collaborate on the interior architecture—lending our expertise in fine finishes and fixtures to complete the spaces, thereby creating the perfect backdrop for the family of furniture makers to fill in each vignette. Catering to a design-industry client meant we sourced with singularity and sophistication in mind, from matchless slabs of marble for the kitchen and master bath to timeless basin sinks that feel right at home on the frontier and custom lighting with both industrial and artistic influences. We let each detail speak for itself in situ.

Matthew T. Gill, VP Operations, Exact Match Masonry Staining, LLC Matthew T. Gill, VP Operations, Exact Match Masonry Staining, LLC A stunning and spacious custom stone home's color was damaged by loose clay soil during the construction process. While landscaping surrounds the stone so that no further issues will occur, the damage done was impossible to reverse safely with cleaning. Stone veneer cannot be pressure washed or chemically washed without damaging it. A safe rinse with water or soft brush did not help. Stone Veneer manufacturers rely on and refer their clients to Exact Match because we are the only industry approved method for as permanent color correction for stone. Whether stone needs to be corrected lighter or darker, we can help you change or restore the color of your home while keeping the same, natural appearance you would expect for high-end custom stone. This project comes from client’s desire to create a prestigious residence, where stone finds its original static function, even more than a decorative one, as the main material of local building tradition. Following the current housing choices, the villa, which is entirely built of stone blocks, fully meets the needs of bio-compatibility and environmental sustainability. However, the strength of the structure is made aesthetically “light” by the dramatic effect of the architectural decorations: doors and windows surrounds, string courses, columns, balustrades, bas-reliefs, masks…which are part of the local baroque tradition.
