RR Builders, LLCThe goal for the design, construction and materials used for this house was for it to seem like it has been there for last 100 years utilizing today’s technologies. Materials used were: reclaimed antique wide plank flooring, hand-hewn reclaimed rustic timbers for beamed cathedral family room, and many built-ins and paneled library were made from antique reclaimed hemlock. Native field stone was used on the exterior wall cladding, canted stone walls and throughout the hardscape.

HUDSON DESIGN Architecture & Construction MgmtThe conversion of this iconic American barn into a Writer’s Studio was conceived of as a tranquil retreat with natural light and lush views to stimulate inspiration for both husband and wife. Originally used as a garage with two horse stalls, the existing stick framed structure provided a loft with ideal space and orientation for a secluded studio. Signature barn features were maintained and enhanced such as horizontal siding, trim, large barn doors, cupola, roof overhangs, and framing. New features added to compliment the contextual significance and sustainability aspect of the project were reclaimed lumber from a razed barn used as flooring, driftwood retrieved from the shores of the Hudson River used for trim, and distressing / wearing new wood finishes creating an aged look. Along with the efforts for maintaining the historic character of the barn, modern elements were also incorporated into the design to provide a more current ensemble based on its new use. Elements such a light fixtures, window configurations, plumbing fixtures and appliances were all modernized to appropriately represent the present way of life.
CL Design & Landscape LLCThe front of this property was a morphed vegetation of bittersweet, honeysuckle, rose, and weeds. The homeowner wished to reconstruct the original landscape which claimed a ledge area and none of the current plant material which required constant pruning to keep under control and to maintain a neat appearance.

The rooflines were designed to match the dutch colonial profile and enhance the original structure. The Great room addition at the rear overlooks French door panels Preserving the character of this Dutch Colonial Home while expanding the living space was the key to the success of this design. A great room and eat in kitchen were added at the rear. A wrap around front porch was added to give the home curb appeal without sacrificing the original design.
