With the intention of creating a ‘dark jewel’ to give space for work, children’s play and practising yoga. Neil Dusheiko used clear burnt cedar – Dento Yakisugi in a ‘hit one miss one’ system creating natural yet mysterious vibes in the garden area.
Using traditional Japanese techniques Shou Sugi Ban makes the cladding resistant to rot and fire. The finish on the cladding can only be controlled so much; this allows the texture, colour and grain to show their true character. The carbon finish can’t be affected by sunlight as it is a colourless element.
Inside the studio they have used a light in colour birch plywood. This gives a brilliant contrast to the exterior. Especially at night when the black dissipates and the 2 large windows let a warm glow filter over the garden.

Garden Affairs Ltd

Kathryn Leeson-Kight KDLK Interior Design Consultation
This Art Studio was placed within the tight boundaries of setback lines. It faced North so the main light was captured on the north facing façade. In order to allow the Pecan tree to continue it's growth the exposed outriggers were designed around the branches.
STREAM Collaborative
A new garage was built with improved, integrated landscaping to connect to the house and retain a beautiful backyard. The two-car garage is larger than the one it replaces and positioned strategically for better backing up and maneuvering. It stylistically coordinates with the house and provides 290 square feet of attic storage. Stone paving connects the drive, path, and outdoor patio which is off of the home’s sun room. Low stone walls and pavers are used to define areas of plantings and yard.
Lighthouse Contracting Group
The goal was to build a carriage house with space for guests, additional vehicles and outdoor furniture storage. The exterior design would match the main house.
Special features of the outbuilding include a custom pent roof over the main overhead door, fir beams and bracketry, copper standing seam metal roof, and low voltage LED feature lighting. A thin stone veneer was installed on the exterior to match the main house.
Outsideology
The Arches Observatory. When the roof is open, the telescope gets a full view of the sky.
