A new home overlooking the salt marsh called for a naturalistic planting with multi-seasonal interest. Grades were modified to integrate the house and terraces with the surrounding landscape, and a sharp embankment was softened with a retaining wall and planting. Specimen trees, shrub borders, grasses and perennials connect the house with the landscape and help to define exterior spaces.
Personal Touch Landscape & Gardening
This tiered retaining wall is made from stone and helps to add depth to this landscape! While serving its essential function, this wall also hosts a variety of garden beds!

A view through the garden rooms, a gravel path leads through to the many spaces, each set up to be viewed from within. The path is lined with cushwa brick outlining the spaces. Terra cotta containers are filled with boxwood and petunia; pachysandra and bugleweed ground cover fill the flanking and center beds. A cast iron bench offers an opportunity to sit and enjoy the space, with the fountain creating a pleasant sound. Standard form lilacs sit in the boxwood hedge. Photo Credit: Linda Oyama Bryan

Urban Oasis Landscape Design
Flowers bloom with abandon in an exuberance rarely seen in a front yard. The gravel area is a place for Zen-like relaxation as well as visual respite from the profusion of color. Using mostly California natives ensures that the water requirements will stay low.

After a tear-down/remodel we were left with a west facing sloped front yard without much privacy from the street, a blank palette as it were. Re purposed concrete was used to create an entrance way and a seating area. Colorful drought tolerant trees and plants were used strategically to screen out unwanted views, and to frame the beauty of the new landscape. This yard is an example of low water, low maintenance without looking like grandmas cactus garden.
