Aralia: Innovation in Landscape DesignA rooftop garden designed for the 2012 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Pleached trees 'edge' and frame the view whilst a modern awning covers the main workspace. Contemporary furniture and sculpture are merged with box hedging and living walls to ensure a relaxing environment. A large multi-stem tree in a huge contemporary planter creates a central focus. Twisted Rock Terrascape & Design, Inc.Our client hired us to renovate their yard that had an old patio that was installed incorrectly years previous. They wanted as maintenance free as possible but with a definite budget in mind. Lastly, they wanted to begin to grow a lot of vegetables at home and therefore wanted some raised cedar planters to suit their needs. We utilized rundle for the bedding areas and concrete edges for ease of maintaining the property in their retirement years. Great project!!
Amber Freda Garden DesignWe love the night and day transformation this garden took on when our client requested a zen garden for her backyard in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. It’s always fun to be asked to design a garden with so many charming creative elements. Our re-design included brown bamboo fencing to cover a very bright white vinyl fence, a fountain, loose grey stones, dark brown deck tiles, contemporary furnishings, a stone Japanese lantern statue, and white fiberglass planters. The plantings include cherry laurels, bamboo, a red weeping maple, moss, grasses, and variegated euonymus. Overhead globe lights add a cheerful nighttime touch. Dawson & ClintonWith the inspiration to build a home around the beauty of its backyard, design started outside, and worked its way in. This concept spawned a home where a contemporary style seamlessly connects to a beautifully landscaped backyard.
The staircase contributes to the overall aesthetic through using light wood tones and a glass guardrail to maintain open lines of sight through the home. Similar design ideals are used throughout the space for the home to function as a frame from which the backyard can be admired.
A rooftop deck was also added for entertaining, complete with a built in barbecue and jacuzzi, where residents can admire views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Amber Freda Garden DesignCheck out the spectacular views on this Brooklyn rooftop garden! Our design included a total makeover of a previously barren space, including replacing the dingy looking concrete pavers with ipe wood deck tiles. We also designed a custom L-shaped ipe bench with seats that lift up for storage and planters filled with soft grasses built into the back of the bench. The lush looking plantings in this garden are in a mix of ipe and fiberglass pots and include Tardiva hydrangeas, white multi-stem birch trees, Mexican feather grasses, boxwoods, angelonia, purple coneflower, and a weeping redbud tree. The planters are illuminated with LED low-voltage up-lights for a dramatic nighttime effect.

Native Edge LandscapeAfter their brand new construction was completed, this family had a beautiful and comfortable home that truly fit their needs. However, this new construction lacked an outdoor living space, which left the backyard feeling stark and bare. With this blank slate, we were able to create a relaxing environment for this family to enjoy.
Faced with the challenge of using every square-inch of this small space, Native Edge was able to design a landscape that left this family worry-free. We incorporated a low maintenance composite decking system, modern raised metal planters, and a bubbling urn water feature to tie this peaceful landscape together. The poor drainage of the lot gave us the opportunity to create a striking cat walk and drainage feature, which left ample room for their vegetable and herb garden hobby. There is even a nook for the family dog to enjoy!
