This custom planting design incorporated seasonal annuals into a succession of perennial plants, shrubs, and flowering plants to create multiple seasons of delight! Building upon the amazing work by Chicago Roof Deck + Garden, our team designed and installed a custom planting design for our client. Design intent incorporated seasonality to the progression from Spring, Summer, Fall, and into Winter, into an incredibly compact area.
CENTRAL PARK ROOF GARDEN
CENTRAL PARK ROOF GARDEN
Amber Freda Garden DesignAmber Freda Garden Design
In designing this rooftop garden overlooking Central Park, one of our main objectives was to not interrupt the spectacular view. We chose low plantings of ornamental grasses, creeping Jenny, sedum, and thyme in fiberglass planters. We love the eclectic feeling of this garden with its oversized mirror to reflect the light, contemporary lamp, and plush two-toned furniture. Our client also selected an antique one-of-a-kind metal urn, in which we planted a Knockout rose bush, surrounded by grasses and annual flowers. Brown bamboo fencing helps warm up a rather plain looking brick wall. See more of our projects at www.amberfreda.com.

The design encapsulated in these images is a harmonious blend of organic architecture and modern luxury, set against a stunning alpine backdrop. The structure features a layered, undulating form that mimics the natural landscape, with wooden elements that add warmth and a sense of connection to the environment. The expansive use of glass allows for breathtaking panoramic views, while the interior spaces showcase sculptural furniture that echoes the building's fluidity, promoting a cohesive aesthetic of comfort and sophistication.
STUNNING FLATIRON DISTRICT ROOFTOP OASIS
STUNNING FLATIRON DISTRICT ROOFTOP OASIS
Amber Freda Garden DesignAmber Freda Garden Design
This stunning rooftop oasis in Manhattan’s Flatiron District is anything but flat with its swimming pool, outdoor shower, built-in kitchen and planters, and cobalt blue accent planters. All of this can be yours, too, since this spacious penthouse apartment is currently on the market for $18 million. The plantings include accents of gold, which pair strikingly with the bright blue ceramic pots. We chose a combination of structured looking plantings like Steed hollies, arborvitaes, boxwoods, and ‘Gold Sword’ yuccas, all of which create a high contrast look against the looser and more informal look of plantings like blue and white violas, gold mop cypresses, and weeping ‘Blue Atlas’ cedars. All of the planters contain low-voltage landscape lighting and drip irrigation. See more of our projects at www.amberfreda.com.

The rooftop is subdivided by a home office space and separate residential area. The terrace conversion introduces elements that create a multifunctional green roof and arboretum. A steppable green walkway, laced with thyme, is positioned between a diverse range of perennials and provides access to both spaces. Selection of the vegetation was inspired by the client’s French Alp origins. On the north terrace there is a designed sculptural fountain. This soothing focal element contributes to a sublime occurrence in the garden, set against the astounding Manhattan skyline. Photo credit: Eve K. Tremblay
