Alair Homes PlanoThis Master Bathroom was dated, dark, and in dire need of an overhaul. Our clients were inspired by a vacation home and wanted black and white basket-weave tile and tiled wainscoting. We used traditional plumbing fixtures, cabinets, and finishes that would complement the tile. We modernized the shower with dual shower heads, DTV, and teak seat. Detailed tile plans were executed to ensure the tile was impeccably installed throughout. This bath was further enhanced with added lighting and radiant heat flooring. CBI Design Professionals, Inc.This residence was designed to have the feeling of a classic early 1900’s Albert Kalin home. The owner and Architect referenced several homes in the area designed by Kalin to recall the character of both the traditional exterior and a more modern clean line interior inherent in those homes. The mixture of brick, natural cement plaster, and milled stone were carefully proportioned to reference the character without being a direct copy. Authentic steel windows custom fabricated by Hopes to maintain the very thin metal profiles necessary for the character. To maximize the budget, these were used in the center stone areas of the home with dark bronze clad windows in the remaining brick and plaster sections. Natural masonry fireplaces with contemporary stone and Pewabic custom tile surrounds, all help to bring a sense of modern style and authentic Detroit heritage to this home. Long axis lines both front to back and side to side anchor this home’s geometry highlighting an elliptical spiral stair at one end and the elegant fireplace at appropriate view lines.

Sweetlake Interior Design LLCThis Houston, Texas River Oaks home went through a complete remodel of their master bathroom. Originally, it was a bland rectangular space with a misplaced shower in the center of the bathroom; partnered with a built-in tub against the window. We redesigned the new space by completely gutting the old bathroom. We decided to make the space flow more consistently by working with the rectangular layout and then created a master bathroom with free-standing tub inside the shower enclosure. The tub was floated inside the shower by the window. Next, we added a large bench seat with an oversized mosaic glass backdrop by Lunada Bay "Agate Taiko. The 9’ x 9’ shower is fully enclosed with 3/8” seamless glass. The furniture-like vanity was custom built with decorative overlays on the mirror doors to match the shower mosaic tile design. Further, we bleached the hickory wood to get the white wash stain on the cabinets. The floor tile is 12" x 24" Athena Sand with a linear mosaic running the length of the room. This tranquil spa bath has many luxurious amenities such as a Bain Ultra Air Tub, "Evanescence" with Brizo Virage Lavatory faucets and fixtures in a brushed bronze brilliance finish. Overall, this was a drastic, yet much needed change for my client.
New SpacesThe clients of this fantastic project contracted New Spaces and Baxter Design to work together to collaboratively design and price the extension to their existing cottage home in Narrabundah. Together with Baxter Design, we worked closely with the owners through the design process, ensuring that the project was aligned with their desires for their home, and their budget. Following the successful design process, New Spaces were contracted to build the extension.
The facade design features reclaimed brick, paired with a dark timber cladding for the ultimate contemporary look, joining with the contrasting cottage through a linkway.
Internally, a large and bright lounge room features solid blackbutt timber flooring, and is accompanied by a delightfully pink powder room. Views to the gum trees are taken in at both ends of the staircase leading up to a generous master bedroom. The uniquely green ensuite has been planned for and finished to the highest degree, and features a custom vanity and quality fixtures.
The smooth build of this extension was achieved according to the client's expectations and budget. It is a testament to the success of the design and build process, which involves thorough planning, cost analysis, and reduces the instances of variations and unknowns.
AY-YA Design HausThe Sheridan is that special project that sparked the beginning of AYYA. Meeting with the home owners and having the opportunity to design those intimate spaces of their charming home in Uptown Chicago was a pleasure and privilege.
The focus of this design story is respecting the architecture and the history of the building while creating a contemporary design that relates to their modern life.
The spaces were completely transformed from what they were to become at their best potential.
The Primary Bathroom was a nod to tradition with the black and white subway tiles, a custom walnut vanity, and mosaic floors. While the Guest Bathroom took a more modern approach, bringing more vertical texture and bold colors to create a statement that connects this room with the rest of the house.
