The Kitchen Design CenterThe warm toned cherry wood warms up this mid century kitchen with the countertop giving the pop of brightness.
GMI Design GroupCaring for aging parents is both a joy and a challenge. The clients wanted to create a more aging-in-place friendly basement area for their mother. The existing kitchenette was more of a glorified bar and did not give her the option of cooking independently, and definitely not stylishly.
We re-configured the area so it was all open, with full kitchen capabilities. All appliances were selected to cater to the mother's limited reach, so all functional storage and product usage can be done without raising arms excessively.
Special storage solutions include a peg-system for a dish drawer, tiered silverware trays, a slide-up appliance garage, and pivoting pantry storage.
The cabinets also give ample display space for her collection of antique glassware.
In lieu of an island, we created a solid-surface top for a standard table so food can be prepped while sitting and without damaging the table top.
All items reflect the mother's tastes and existing furniture so she can truly feel like this basement is her space, while still being close to her son and daughter-in-law.
DCI Home ImprovementsKitchen renovation in a 1970's era condominium on Dunedin Causeway in Dunedin, FL. Upgrades include removal of walls to open the space. The addition of new Designer's Choice Cabinetry, glass tile backsplash, and new LVP floors throughout.
Wendy Glaister InteriorsOnce upon a time, this kitchen had ceilings only 8 feet high, only one window, no real storage, and very little light. Now, this glorious, cheery space boasts 10 foot ceilings, three new, giant windows, and incredibly efficient drawer storage with all the bells and whistles a home cook may ask for. This view is of the open sink wall. It cleverly houses the family's coffee making apparatus' in flanking storage towers.
Form Found Design
Inspired by the multi-functional performance of a shell structure in nature, the design of this two-bedroom, two-bath ADU explored a performance-based roof geometry that becomes the building façade and privacy screen. Coupled with deep roof overhangs, this second skin allows dappled light to penetrate the interior during the day while reflecting the detrimental UV radiation on the southern exposure. The perforations in the second skin are based on the effects of the sun path on the southern exposure and the location of the windows behind the screen. At night, the interior light glows through the perforations, contributing to the name of the project, “LuminOCity”.
Orange Coast College and UC Irvine formed a partnership called "Team MADE" to enter the 2023 Orange County Sustainability Decathlon. "MADE" is an acronym for Modular, Affordable Dwellings for the Environment. LuminOCity won second place in the competition and 9 awards in various categories. Following the competition, the home was donated to Homeless Intervention Services, Orange County, where it serves as an ADU on an existing property to provide transitional housing for youth experiencing housing insecurities.
This 750sf prefabricated, modular home is built on four, eight foot wide modules that nest together. The building system is predicated on a software-to-manufacturing pipeline called the FrameCAD Machine. This roll-former for light-gauge steel allowed Team MADE to prototype as well as site-manufacture every stud and track in the steel-framed home they would design. Over 100 student volunteers aided in the construction of the steel framing, MEP installation, building envelope, and site work. The use of prefabricated Light Gauge Steel allowed for higher construction tolerances with simplified assembly diagrams that could be followed by student volunteers. Joseph Sarafian, AIA was the lead architect as well as one of four faculty advisors on the project, leading the design of the project from conception to completion.
Lindsey MarkelThe existing kitchen was VERY traditional which did not suite the new homeowners taste and more so their functional needs. They LOVE to cook and have all the kitchen tools to create anything from Italian dishes, Asian cuisine to the finest pastries. They needed space to store all of their cooking utensils and their current kitchen just didn’t offer that. The kitchen was confined and adding additional square footage was not possible, therefore our biggest challenge was to fit all their storage and appliance needs into the existing space.

Crickett KinserThis hillside unit with a view of all of beautiful Ventura was in desperate need of a remodel! The kitchen went from a tiny box to the entire width of the common space opening up the room to an open concept floor plan. Mixing glossy laminate doors with an ultra-matte black door, we were able to put together this bold design. The fridge is completely concealed and separating the pantry from the fridge is a walnut-look wine stack perfect for all the entertaining this couple plans to have!
Winbourne Building and DesignThis spacious modern kitchen features Forevermark Cabinetry with shaker style and ice white finish. The two tier Valentino Quartz peninsula was designed to improve functionally in the kitchen and enhance the entertainment experience with guests. The floors are a seasoned wood finish luxury vinyl tile.

DK HomesThis stand-alone condominium takes a bold step with dark, modern farmhouse exterior features. Once again, the details of this stand alone condominium are where this custom design stands out; from custom trim to beautiful ceiling treatments and careful consideration for how the spaces interact. The exterior of the home is detailed with dark horizontal siding, vinyl board and batten, black windows, black asphalt shingles and accent metal roofing. McDaniels Kitchen and BathThis Lansing, MI kitchen remodel is a distinctive mission style design with Medallion Cabinetry flat panel kitchen cabinets in a warm wood finish. The design is accented by black matte Richelieu hardware and black GE appliances. A solid surface Corian countertop with a 1" coved backsplash beautifully finishes off the design, topped by a white subway tile backsplash.
