Melrose Partners DesignsAchieving the old world look and feel in the kitchen, a Melrose Partners Designs signature look is used: high gloss stained doors and cabinets meet polished nickel oversized hardware. Dark walnut interiors and striking English ice box hinges and pulls were procured, along with oversized quartz countertops on both the center island and main counter space run; mirror-polished stainless steel drawer fronts dress up the distressed hickory and insert doors on the main island. An added bonus: a 45-inch under-mounted sink with a hot and cold water dispenser. In order to achieve a grandiose feel for the space, a Cerused finished, 12-inch plank white oak, expanses the floor.
catlin stothers designThe decision to either renovate the upper and lower units of a duplex or convert them into a single-family home was a no-brainer. Situated on a quiet street in Montreal, the home was the childhood residence of the homeowner, where many memories were made and relationships formed within the neighbourhood. The prospect of living elsewhere wasn’t an option.
A complete overhaul included the re-configuration of three levels to accommodate the dynamic lifestyle of the empty nesters. The potential to create a luminous volume was evident from the onset. With the home backing onto a park, westerly views were exploited by oversized windows and doors. A massive window in the stairwell allows morning sunlight to filter in and create stunning reflections in the open concept living area below.
The staircase is an architectural statement combining two styles of steps, with the extended width of the lower staircase creating a destination to read, while making use of an otherwise awkward space.
White oak dominates the entire home to create a cohesive and natural context. Clean lines, minimal furnishings and white walls allow the small space to breathe.

“A family home to be lived in not just looked at” placed functionality as main priority in the
extensive renovation of this coastal holiday home.
Existing layout featured:
– Inadequate bench space in the cooking zone
– An impractical and overly large walk in pantry
– Torturous angles in the design of the house made work zones cramped with a frenetic aesthetic at odds
with the linear skylights creating disharmony and an unbalanced feel to the entire space.
– Unappealing seating zones, not utilising the amazing view or north face space
WISH LIST
– Comfortable retreat for two people and extend family, with space for multiple cooks to work in the kitchen together or to a functional work zone for a couple.
DESIGN SOLUTION
– Removal of awkward angle walls creating more space for a larger kitchen
– External angles which couldn’t be modified are hidden, creating a rational, serene space where the skylights run parallel to walls and fittings.

WoodwaysThis Woodways contemporary kitchen utilizes a mix of materials to add depth and warmth to the space. The high contrast between the dark cabinetry and bright white backsplash and counter draw emphasis to this area. Undercabinet lighting is added for better visibility when using this space for tasks.
Doug Walter ArchitectA living, dining, and kitchen area were opened up, and the flat 8 foot ceiling torn out to open up a large vaulted coffer, punctuated by a double skylight shaft over the cooktop and sink that floods the kitchen with daylight. Three windows on left (north) wall were closed in for privacy and wall space for cabinets
Skipp Renovations - Designer Kitchens Made SimpleGet the look: B I R D by architect Andrew Heathfield of MINOH is unique in color and holds delicate features. The base cabinets are available in a shaker, slab, or beaded style navy blue, with oil-rubbed bronze hardware. Countertops take either a dark or light approach, with walnut or maple accents respectively. Concrete floors, stainless steel plumbing fixtures and contemporary lighting fixtures complete the truly versatile B I R D template. Options for integrated appliances and multiple backsplash options add to this design’s overall flexibility and character.
GreenstructNew and blue. 2-pac cupboards, pocket doors, retro appliances and white stone benches set this kitchen apart. Detailing to the vertical grooves and cupboard layout was paid special attention, and the results were gorgeous.
Studio LarkThis kitchen renovation was part of a larger, extensive interior renovation for an existing penthouse condominium residence, located in Clayton, Missouri. The primary concept for the overall renovation was to bring architectural continuity throughout the entire residence with an edited materials palette that serves as a neutral backdrop for the owners’ extensive art collection. For the kitchen area specifically, dark flooring comprised of large-format Italian porcelain tiles is contrasted with high-gloss white cabinetry at the kitchen’s perimeter and gray-stained reconstituted veneer wrapping the island cabinetry. This neutral palette of white and gray is further enhanced with quartz countertops that include dramatic, gray veining. The custom banquette seating with built-in storage, activates the north wall of the kitchen and serves as an anchor for a new dining table and chairs. A contrasting blue velvet textile softens the built-in banquette, and provides a restrained field of color. The gray wood veneer is echoed at custom wall panels behind the banquette, serving as a textural backdrop for artwork installation. And a light, feathery chandelier hangs above the dining table with intention in mind to not obstruct views of the artwork beyond.

L Carter InteriorsModern and Open Concept were the driving forces behind this gorgeous kitchen remodel. We removed the wall that previously separated the kitchen and the dining room, and expanded the kitchen's functionality by adding custom cabinetry, by San Francisco based modern cabinetry manufacturer, Sozo Studio, tailored to fit the space and the homeowners needs perfectly. The ultra-matte finish of the charcoal cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the existing hardwood flooring and bright white quartz counters and backsplash.

Plain & PoshThis stunning home is a combination of the best of traditional styling with clean and modern design, creating a look that will be as fresh tomorrow as it is today. Traditional white painted cabinetry in the kitchen, combined with the slab backsplash, a simpler door style and crown moldings with straight lines add a sleek, non-fussy style. An architectural hood with polished brass accents and stainless steel appliances dress up this painted kitchen for upscale, contemporary appeal. The kitchen islands offers a notable color contrast with their rich, dark, gray finish.
The stunning bar area is the entertaining hub of the home. The second bar allows the homeowners an area for their guests to hang out and keeps them out of the main work zone.
The family room used to be shut off from the kitchen. Opening up the wall between the two rooms allows for the function of modern living. The room was full of built ins that were removed to give the clean esthetic the homeowners wanted. It was a joy to redesign the fireplace to give it the contemporary feel they longed for.
Their used to be a large angled wall in the kitchen (the wall the double oven and refrigerator are on) by straightening that out, the homeowners gained better function in the kitchen as well as allowing for the first floor laundry to now double as a much needed mudroom room as well.
