Sato Architects, Inc.Sato Architects was hired to update the kitchen, utility room, and existing bathrooms in this 1930s Spanish bungalow. The existing spaces were closed in, and the finishes felt dark and bulky. We reconfigured the spaces to maximize efficiency and feel bigger without actually adding any square footage. Aesthetically, we focused on clean lines and finishes, with just the right details to accent the charm of the existing 1930s style of the home. This project was a second phase to the Modern Charm Spanish Primary Suite Addition.

Extending the buffet to the ceiling, using glass shelves and built in lighting accentuates the display of the owner’s art and craft collection. The addition of new LED recessed lighting provides a brighter and more energy efficient space. Under-cabinet lighting also enhances visibility at the marble counter top work surfaces.

Palatial Stone & TileThe entire back of the house accommodates a kitchen that pays homage to great European country kitchens. Kitchen countertops are Bianco Carrara honed marble, antique reclaimed terra cotta tile flooring, and a glazed hexagonal oxford gray backsplash.
The perimeter countertops are 3cm Bianco Carrara honed marble with an ogee edge and the island features 5cm Bianco Carrara honed marble with a simpler flat polished edge. The 4” backsplash extends around the entire perimeter expect behind the stove which is a full height Bianco Carrara splash.
AmberthThis basement kitchen is bright and inviting due to the generous amount of natural light flooding the space and the curved open shelving units that aesthetically leads you from one space to another. A white Corian work top wraps around grey silk finished lacquered draws creating a contemporary feel.
