KOELNMOEBELDiese offene Küche bereicherten wir um eine Theke als bequemen Sitzplatz für einen genüsslichen Kaffee und das Gespräch zwischen den Anwesenden.
Viele Schubladen bieten reichlich Stauraum, selbst der tote Winkel unter der Theke ist als Schrank von der Wohnzimmerseite aus zu nutzen. Die warme, geölte Holzarbeitsplatte kontrastiert harmonisch mit der glatten, glänzenden Front.
Thematisch achteten wir darauf, dass die Theke punktgenau auf die Fuge zwischen Holzparkett und Schieferboden trifft, um den Übergang vom Wohn- zum Küchenbereich zu unterstreichen. Passend dazu verlängerten wir mit einfachen Mitteln die rechte Seitenwand, die so die Hochschrankzeile bis zu ihrem Sockel geschickt verbirgt. Mit diesen Stilmitteln erscheinen nun beide Räume eigenständig und sind doch untrennbar miteinander verbunden.

Side by Side Interiors LLCThis small 1910 bungalow was long overdue for an update. The goal was to lighten everything up without sacrificing the original architecture. Iridescent subway tile, lighted reeded glass, and white cabinets help to bring sparkle to a space with little natural light. I designed the custom made cabinets with inset doors and curvy shaped toe kicks as a nod to the arts and crafts period. It's all topped off with black hardware, countertops and lighting to create contrast and drama. The result is an up-to-date space ready for entertaining!

J.Sweitzer-Architects LLCAfter removal of a wall separating the kitchen from the original dining room the space now flows from the kitchen to the new media room, formerly the dining room. The steel column is a "jacket" around the second floor bathroom waste pipe. Storage in the kitchen includes upper-upper cabinets for seasonal items. By a simple removal of a non-load bearing wall and the closing of two openings into the original kitchen the counter space and cabinet storage was tripled.
Reverse ArchitectureKitchen in the owner's unit of a multi-family house renovation in Belmont, Massachusetts. Light filters down from a skylight above the exposed beams of the kitchen. This space above the beams rises up to another skylight at the peak of the roof which can be opened to induce natural airflow throughout the house. Because of an intentionally designed passive ventilation system, in which the form of the interior is shaped around air flow, the home can be comfortably ventilated with cool night air and does not require air conditioning.
