Curtis Lumber Ballston SpaThis custom chef’s kitchen designed by Cutis Lumber Co, Inc. is designed for entertaining. A dramatic twist on the modern farmhouse style, the look was achieved by contrasting black and white with accents of gold. It features: a 12-foot long black leathered granite serving island with spectacular gold pendants, a floating cooking island with a professional range and floating contemporary hood above, as well as a mirrored front refrigerator panel that disappears into the spacious white cabinets and a built-in coffee and beverage station. The white glossy tiled wall holds black oak floating shelves. The custom cabinetry is by Crystal Cabinet Works, Regent door style; perimeter in Designer White, island in Black Red Oak. Emtek Freestone Pulls in Satin Brass add glam. Stacking cabinets vertically gave the homeowners the ample storage they desired.

LaMantia Design and RemodelingThese homeowners came to us to update their kitchen, yet stay within the existing footprint. Their goal was to make the space feel more open, while also gaining better pantry storage and more continuous counter top space for preparing meals and entertaining.
We started towards achieving their goals by removing soffits around the entire room and over the island, which allowed for more storage and taller crown molding. Then we increased the open feeling of the room by removing the peninsula wall cabinets which had been a visual obstruction between the main kitchen and the dining area. This also allowed for a more functional stretch of counter on the peninsula for preparation or serving, which is complimented by another working counter that was created by cornering their double oven on the opposite side of the room. At the same time, we shortened the peninsula by a few inches to allow for better traffic flow to the dining area because it is a main route for traffic. Lastly, we made a more functional and aesthetically pleasing pantry wall by tailoring the cabinetry to their needs and creating relief with open shelves for them to display their art.
The addition of larger moldings, carved onlays and turned legs throughout the kitchen helps to create a more formal setting for entertaining. The materials that were used in the kitchen; stone floor tile, maple cabinets, granite counter tops and porcelain backsplash tile are beautiful, yet durable enough to withstand daily wear and heavy use during gatherings.
The lighting was updated to meet current technology and enhance the task and decorative lighting in the space. The can lights through the kitchen and desk area are LED cans to increase energy savings and minimize the need for light bulb changes over time. We also installed LED strip lighting below the wall cabinets to be used as task lighting and inside of glass cabinets to accent the decorative elements.
Kitchen Design Studio, Inc.This beautiful, soft contemporary kitchen, bar and dining area are a result of combining rooms - a former closed off, galley-style kitchen and separate formal dining room - to create a comfortable, functional but sophisticated new space, open to views of Lake Michigan. DEANE Inc | Distinctive Design & CabinetryThe clients loved their newly purchased, quiet, and secluded home, but it needed a full renovation. As the homeowners are avid chefs, the design and intelligent usage plan for the new kitchen took top priority. They were inspired by a visit to the DEANE showroom displays and selected a sleek, modern style without hardware for their midcentury, Italian modern update. High gloss, lacquer cabinets in a soft grey add warmth to the room, and all cabinets and drawers are opened either via channel pulls or touch-operated. To keep the quartzite countertops clean and free of clutter, the drawers were customized to include knife inserts, silverware dividers, and spices out of sight with a cooking utensil drawer right below the range and a pull-out cabinet underneath the sink to give easy access to cleaning supplies. The patinaed stainless steel island with distressed, wire-brushed cabinets acts as both an area for eating as well as entertaining, with storage designed for serving platters. Appliance garages flank the cooktop counter areas, and the detail at the bottom of the custom hood echos the channel pulls. Refrigerated beverage drawers and contemporary SubZero/Wolf model appliances complete the space, with the single slab, seamless backsplash providing a dramatic focal point. The designer loves how the mixture of stainless steel and high gloss lacquer makes the room so stunning.
