This was a kitchen makeover on a budget. Tasked to update an old kitchen for resale we kept the old old cabinet carcass's and even tiles but replaced the cabinet doors, panels, bench top and appliances. Contemporary kitchen with clever storage ideas

Most people would relate to the typical floor plan of a 1980's Brick Veneer home. Disconnected living spaces with closed off rooms, the original layout comprised of a u shaped kitchen with an archway leading to the adjoining dining area that hooked around to a living room behind the kitchen wall. The client had put a lot of thought into their requirements for the renovation, knowing building works would be involved. After seeing Ultimate Kitchens and Bathrooms projects feature in various magazines, they approached us confidently, knowing we would be able to manage this scale of work alongside their new dream kitchen. Our designer, Beata Brzozowska worked closely with the client to gauge their ideals. The space was transformed with the archway wall between the being replaced by a beam to open up the run of the space to allow for a galley style kitchen. An idealistic walk in pantry was then cleverly incorporated to the design, where all storage needs could be concealed behind sliding doors. This gave scope for the bench top to be clutter free leading out to an alfresco space via bi-fold bay windows which acted as a servery. An island bench at the living end side creates a great area for children to sit engaged in their homework or for another servery area to the interior zone. Redstones is a whole-house eco-retrofit in Oxfordshire — a home reimagined around beauty, wellbeing and regenerative principles, designed for a family with a deep connection to nature and a clear vision for how they wanted to live. Working across interior design, bespoke joinery and sustainability consultancy, we designed and handcrafted a kitchen, utility room, boot room, dining table and bathroom vanity, all rooted in reclaimed and natural materials. The heart of the project was a barn of 200-year-old oak discovered by the client, milled in our workshop and woven throughout the space. Every knot and groove honoured. Performance upgrades shaped by Passivhaus principles — triple glazing, heat recovery ventilation, air source heat pump, low-toxicity finishes — sit quietly beneath a home that now feels lighter, warmer and deeply personal. "I never thought this would be our forever home," the client told us. "But now… it might be."

Full width rear extension with full internal refurbishment and first floor layout redesign

The ground floor in this terraced house had a poor flow and a badly positioned kitchen with limited worktop space. By moving the kitchen to the longer wall on the opposite side of the room, space was gained for a good size and practical kitchen, a dining zone and a nook for the children’s arts & crafts. This tactical plan provided this family more space within the existing footprint and also permitted the installation of the understairs toilet the family was missing. The new handleless kitchen has two contrasting tones, navy and white. The navy units create a frame surrounding the white units to achieve the visual effect of a smaller kitchen, whilst offering plenty of storage up to ceiling height. The work surface has been improved with a longer worktop over the base units and an island finished in calacutta quartz. The full-height units are very functional housing at one end of the kitchen an integrated washing machine, a vented tumble dryer, the boiler and a double oven; and at the other end a practical pull-out larder. A new modern LED pendant light illuminates the island and there is also under-cabinet and plinth lighting. Every inch of space of this modern kitchen was carefully planned. To improve the flood of natural light, a larger skylight was installed. The original wooden exterior doors were replaced for aluminium double glazed bifold doors opening up the space and benefiting the family with outside/inside living. The living room was newly decorated in different tones of grey to highlight the chimney breast, which has become a feature in the room. To keep the living room private, new wooden sliding doors were fitted giving the family the flexibility of opening the space when necessary. The newly fitted beautiful solid oak hardwood floor offers warmth and unifies the whole renovated ground floor space. The first floor bathroom and the shower room in the loft were also renovated, including underfloor heating. Portal Property Services managed the whole renovation project, including the design and installation of the kitchen, toilet and bathrooms.

The opposing joinery and staircase create a strong relationship at both sides of the living space. The continuous joinery seamlessly morphs from kitchen to a seat for dining, and finally to form the media unit within the living area. The stair and the joinery are separated by a strong vertically tiled column. Our bespoke staircase was designed meticulously with the joiner and steelwork fabricator. The wrapping Beech Treads and risers and expressed with a shadow gap above the simple plaster finish. En Cuines Prisma tenemos claro que nuestro principal objetivo es crear proyecto de cocinas de calidad que cumplan con las necesidades de todos nuestros clientes. En este sentido, la idea de nuestros clientes en este proyecto era aprovechar mucho mejor el espacio en la cocina y proporcionar mucha más libertad y movimiento, además de amplitud y conexión entre la cocina y el salón. Al estar la cocina completamente integrada en el comedor, lo que proyectamos fue una cocina con isla muy elegante, creando todo un conjunto completamente independiente, pero totalmente integrado con el salón. El proyecto lo dividimos en tres partes: la zona de aguas, donde quedan integrados el fregadero y los cajones; la isla, donde ubicamos la cocción; y una tercera zona, donde se han ubicado los muebles columna y todos los electrodomésticos. La cocina utilizada fue una cocina Santos fine D1.
