The house was built in 1963 and is reinforced cinder block construction, unusual for California, which makes any renovation work trickier. The kitchen we replaced featured all maple cabinets and floors and pale pink countertops. With the remodel we didn’t change the layout, or any window/door openings. The cabinets may read as white, but they are actually cream with an antique glaze on a flat panel door. All countertops and backsplash are granite. The original copper hood was replaced by a custom one in zinc. Dark brick veneer fireplace is now covered in white limestone. The homeowners do a lot of entertaining, so even though the overall layout didn’t change, I knew just what needed to be done to improve function. The husband loves to cook and is beyond happy with his 6-burner stove.

Corsini Stark ArchitectsThe corner lot at the base of San Jacinto Mountain in the Vista Las Palmas tract in Palm Springs included an altered mid-century residence originally designed by Charles Dubois with a simple, gabled roof originally in the ‘Atomic Ranch’ style and sweeping mountain views to the west and south. The new owners wanted a comprehensive, contemporary, and visually connected redo of both interior and exterior spaces within the property. The project buildout included approximately 600 SF of new interior space including a new freestanding pool pavilion at the southeast corner of the property which anchors the new rear yard pool space and provides needed covered exterior space on the site during the typical hot desert days. Josh Wynne ConstructionBeachHaus is built on a previously developed site on Siesta Key. It sits directly on the bay but has Gulf views from the upper floor and roof deck.
The client loved the old Florida cracker beach houses that are harder and harder to find these days. They loved the exposed roof joists, ship lap ceilings, light colored surfaces and inviting and durable materials.
Given the risk of hurricanes, building those homes in these areas is not only disingenuous it is impossible. Instead, we focused on building the new era of beach houses; fully elevated to comfy with FEMA requirements, exposed concrete beams, long eaves to shade windows, coralina stone cladding, ship lap ceilings, and white oak and terrazzo flooring.
The home is Net Zero Energy with a HERS index of -25 making it one of the most energy efficient homes in the US. It is also certified NGBS Emerald.

Conbu Interior DesignUnderstairs storage removed and WC fitted. Wall hung WC, small vanity unit fitted in tiny room with wall panelling, large mirror and patterned co-ordinating floor tiles.
k YODER design, LLCA wall-mounted walnut vanity with marble sink and white textured wall tile in the powder room complement the wood millwork and brick fireplace in the adjacent family and living rooms.

Simpson & VoyleThe ultimate powder room. A celebration of beautiful materials, we keep the colours very restrained as the flooring is such an eyecatcher. But the space is both luxurious and dramatic. The bespoke marble floating vanity unit, with functional storage, is both functional and beautiful. The full-height mirror opens the space, adding height and drama. the brushed brass tap gives a sense of luxury and compliments the simple Murano glass pendant.
Studio KuAn Italian limestone tile, called “Raw”, with an interesting rugged hewn face provides the backdrop for a room where simplicity reigns. The pure geometries expressed in the perforated doors, the mirror, and the vanity play against the baroque plan of the room, the hanging organic sculptures and the bent wood planters.
