A shady sideyard is paved with reused stone and gravel. Generous pots, the client's collection of whimsical ceramic frogs, and a birdbath add interest and form to the narrow area. Beginning groundcovers will fill in densely. The pathway is shared with neighbor. A variety of textured and colorful shady plants fill the area for beauty and interest all year.

Northwest Native Landscapes LLCThis compact, urban backyard was in desperate need of privacy. We created a series of outdoor rooms, privacy screens, and lush plantings all with an Asian-inspired design sense. Elements include a covered outdoor lounge room, sun decks, rock gardens, shade garden, evergreen plant screens, and raised boardwalk to connect the various outdoor spaces. The finished space feels like a true backyard oasis.
Colm Joseph GardensA bespoke water feature design integrates with the corten steel louvres of the house extension. The water feature, and the planting beside it, is positioned in close proximity to the glazed extension to bring the garden into the house.
The internal concrete flooring is continued outside. To complement our paving design, we also designed a modernist concrete dining table and benches tailored to the space.
The garden design softens the building with the introduction of lush, naturalistic planting and a bespoke water feature.
Schumacher AssociatesOne of our favorite native plants, Asclepias tuberosa, is a host plant to Monarch butterflies.
The Japanese GardenAn example of a Japanese garden has lot options. This space only measure 8ft x 4ft (3 square meters)
As you can see in the photos, we incorporated a tsukubai (Japanese source) and a karesansui (sand garden) This work was carried in only 3 days !!!
Modern Landscape Care and DesignMULCH is an optional layer of material applied to the surface of an area of soil mostly around trees, flowers and plants. The purpose of mulch is the following:
- To conserve moisture
- To improve the fertility and health of the soil (for that reason we prefer to use mulch instead of retail fertilizer around flowers and vegetable plants.)
- To reduce weed growth (some weeds could still go through mulch if the weed control fabric has not been placed under the mulch.)
- To increase the visual appeal of the area
Colm Joseph GardensThis garden design creates a bold, contemporary courtyard space in harmony with the modern architecture of this beautiful Victorian villa in central Cambridge.
