This “man cave” takes a more sophisticated route with its transitional look and neutral color palette. A sectional covered in chocolate chenille with bronze nail heads wraps around a distressed black cocktail table. A console stands behind the sectional and is home to two large ball sculptures and a wrought iron lamp. Woven blinds and plaid flannel draperies shield the room from bright light and add to the masculinity of the space. An abstract metallic piece of art is flanked by two wood friezes and hangs on a wall painted Sherwin Williams’ Wool Skein. An olive green carpet covers the walnut stained floors and a ceramic lamp in a tortoise shell glaze provides light for the gold chenille swivel tub chair.

This family room refresh started with painting many of the heavy dark beams so that the ceiling beams became the focal point. We added custom cabinets for a bar and builtins next to the fireplace. We also added custom trim work and a mantle to the fireplace to brighten the space. New light fixtures and can lights added the finishing touch

THE FAMILY ROOM: "I have seen many magnificent and precise homes that yet were cold. However, this home is different. IT has unique moments. It is immediately comfortable. The way the rooms communicate to one another is as good as I have ever seen." (Frank Macri, President Andrews/Birt Advertising * Newmedia Minneapolis/Denver). This Family Room is oriented toward 'Finger Rock' of the Catalina Mountains beyond. The design is bright and airy with the spaces of the Family Room, Kitchen, and Nook flowing together. Heavy chamfered doug-fir beams with beautiful corbels add character at the ceiling level. Plain slump block masonry is given life by the 'Adobe Mortar Wash' finish, as black hand made wrought-iron detaining at the mantle, bar/foot-rail, and kitchen fan hood, (not seen here) help tie the spaces together with a common material of unique application.

This “basement” can go toe-to-toe with any posh Manhattan nightclub thanks to its custom built bar, LED lighting accents, lounge area with a wraparound leather sofa, electric fireplace, 120-bottle wine cellar, “pillar of fire” column with drink rests, a smoke machine, and laser lights. But the icing on this mini nightclub’s cake is something that’s vital for a long night of partying–the room’s lighting, three TVs and two zones of audio are all super easy to control right from an iPad through the ELAN g! entertainment and control system.
