Current Master Bathroom is very outdated. Client wanted to create a spa feel keeping it mid century modern style as the rest of their home. The bathroom is small so a spacious feeling was important. There is a window they wanted to focus on. A walk in shower was a must that eventually would accomodate an easy walk in as they aged.

Eichler homes were developed in California by Joseph Eichler starting in the 1950s. These architectural masterpieces are known for their Mid-Century Modern style. Often found in the Bay Area, these houses are full of sleek lines, traditional materials and minimal design. When this style of home is paired with the amazing design eye of Fox Homes, it creates the quintessential “dream home”.

Cathie Hong InteriorsThis 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.
Flavin ArchitectsFlavin Architects was chosen for the renovation due to their expertise with Mid-Century-Modern and specifically Henry Hoover renovations. Respect for the integrity of the original home while accommodating a modern family’s needs is key. Michael Norpell's Wall To WallThe original bathroom light fixtures with a gold star motif were the inspiration for this fun bathroom remodel. A textured wall tile picks up shapes of the shadow block on the exterior of the home, and a whimsical cosmic palm wallpaper ties all the elements together.
Hsu McCulloughThe primary shower is open to an enclosed shower garden. The garden has a large opening to the sky above for incredible natural light as well as open to the south lawn beyond. With a flick of a switch, the south door in the shower garden to the exterior can obscure the landscape beyond for modesty and privacy when using the shower.
