I was chosen to be a designer in this year's Home Show. A competition between two top designers. I was delighted to be chosen this year's winner with my nod to mid-century style.

Balancing modern architectural elements with traditional Edwardian features was a key component of the complete renovation of this San Francisco residence. All new finishes were selected to brighten and enliven the spaces, and the home was filled with a mix of furnishings that convey a modern twist on traditional elements. The re-imagined layout of the home supports activities that range from a cozy family game night to al fresco entertaining.

The living room provides direct access to the covered outdoor area. The living room is open both to the street and to the owners privacy of their back yard. The room is served by the warmth of winter sun penetration and the coll breeze cross ventilating the room.

Mid century modern furniture in teal and mustards give a stylish feel to this compact living room. Floating alcove shelves and a mantlepiece were built set off against striking deep coloured walls painted in Farrow & Ball's Stiffkey blue and Plummett grey. An unused alcove area was zoned to be a useful work space with a two-tone wooden desk. Carefully curated art deco-inspired pieces were also added including an impactful hexagonal gold hanging mirror on the chimney breast; dramatic gold and frosted glass domed pendant lights; and a stylish marble drinks trolley. Whilst other accessories were selected in matching yellow tones
Plaster Artistry
Our client wanted a traditional Venetian Plaster in her garden room that was filled with tropical plants. And of course, she wanted it in her favorite color, denim blue.
Veneziano is the most traditional Venetian Plaster finish, and dates from the Renaissance period, when Venetian architects and designers were looking for ways to give their buildings the same elegance as the buildings on the mainland, but without the weight of using stone blocks and slabs.
This translucent wall finish is smooth to the touch, and polished to a mirror-like gloss.

An open plan kitchen/dining/living room has been made comfortable and welcoming by adding a bright teal sofa, colourful upholstered chairs and furniture with clean, Mid Century lines. Black is used in the picture frames, lamp and planters to add depth to the scheme, and it is finished off with a personal gallery wall.

Moving into their house with little furniture, the Fishers were pleasantly surprised to see details such as this built-in sofa. The cove lighting and built-ins helped shorten the list of necessities, and added a thoughtful touch to the design.
Bobbie chose wool upholstery in bright blue to recover the sofa. While orange seemed a natural choice, Bobbie realized that there was already a lot of orange around the house. To compliment the sofa's new shade, she displays her bargello needlepoint pillows that deliver the perfect dose of citrus.
