Design Connection, Inc.Prior to remodeling, this spacious great room was reminiscent of the 1907’s in both its furnishings and window treatments. While the view from the room is spectacular with windows that showcase a beautiful pond and a large expanse of land with a horse barn, the interior was dated.
Our client loved his space, but knew it needed an update. Before the remodel began, there was a wall that separated the kitchen from the great room. The client desired a more open and fluid floor plan. Arlene Ladegaard, principle designer of Design Connection, Inc., was contacted to help achieve his dreams of creating an open and updated space.
Arlene designed a space that is transitional in style. She used an updated color palette of gray tons to compliment the adjoining kitchen. By opening the space up and unifying design styles throughout, the blending of the two rooms becomes seamless.
Comfort was the primary consideration in selecting the sectional as the client wanted to be able to sit at length for leisure and TV viewing. The side tables are a dark wood that blends beautifully with the newly installed dark wood floors, the windows are dressed in simple treatments of gray linen with navy accents, for the perfect final touch.
With regard to artwork and accessories, Arlene spent many hours at outside markets finding just the perfect accessories to compliment all the furnishings. With comfort and function in mind, each welcoming seat is flanked by a surface for setting a drink – again, making it ideal for entertaining.
Design Connection, Inc. of Overland Park provided the following for this project: space plans, furniture, window treatments, paint colors, wood floor selection, tile selection and design, lighting, artwork and accessories, and as the project manager, Arlene Ladegaard oversaw installation of all the furnishings and materials.
Allen ConstructionThe carpet was removed and replaced with new engineered wood floors, with walnut from the owner's childhood home in Ohio. New windows and doors.

The McKenna Mountain Retreat is owned by a family who loves the outdoors, whether it’s skiing the ‘Private Powder’ at YC, or fly fishing any of the nearby trout rivers. With grown children, they wanted a home that would be a place they could all gather comfortably, pursue their favorite activities together, and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings. Encircled by lodgepole pines, they also benefit for solitude without sacrificing the amenities found at the Club.

JMP InteriorsMy client was moving from a 5,000 sq ft home into a 1,365 sq ft townhouse. She wanted a clean palate and room for entertaining. The main living space on the first floor has 5 sitting areas, three are shown here. She travels a lot and wanted her art work to be showcased. Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, ORThis is the model unit for modern live-work lofts. The loft features 23 foot high ceilings, a spiral staircase, and an open bedroom mezzanine.
Imperfect InteriorsThe sitting room in this family home in West Dulwich was opened up to the kitchen and the dining area of the lateral extension to create one large family room. A pair of matching velvet sofas & mohair velvet armchairs created a nice seating area around the newly installed fireplace and a large rug helped to zone the space
Laure Nell InteriorsThe homeowners of this 6,000-square-foot house in Delray Beach don’t have to go far for a night out on the town. We transformed two bedrooms with a connecting bathroom into an entertainment wing with a true speakeasy vibe, right down to the hidden bookcase door that makes its entrance from the main living room quasi invisible. A moody, deep navy wallpaper with copper accents envelops the walls and layers together with rich woods and dark hues from floor to ceiling. The new movie room features custom built-ins, a home bar, a billiards table and the owners’ collection of vinyl records punctuated with a piece of Beatles-themed art that we sourced as an homage to the owners’ love of iconic films and music. The custom built-in wine fridge in the adjacent wine room houses their 250-plus collection of unique bottles the owners bring back from their frequent travels around the world. We pulled the moody palette into other areas of the home that needed reimagining, including the double-height living room, where we clad the fireplace in black and white materials and specified Tom Dixon’s lustrous Melt pendants to cascade over the space.
