We created this simple, passive solar plan to fit a variety of different building sites with easy customization. It takes well to changes adapting to suit one's individual needs. Designed for optimal passive solar and thermal performance in tight building footprints.
This cottage's exterior features poplar bark, locust log posts, and timber frame accent. Siding and trim is LP products with Eco-Panel SIPs integrated "board" for batten.

The lockable shutters where installed as bifolds so the family can close them to secure their furniture, give them privacy, or weather the elements, or they can open the entirely to enjoy the outside.
Shakertown IncShakertown Craftsman Shingle Panel, 7" exposure, keyway even-butt style. The cedar shingle shingle panels are finished with a clear stain.

Several challenges presented themselves when designing the new entry/portico. The homeowners wanted to keep the large transom window above the front door and the need to address “where is” the front entry and of course, curb appeal.
With the addition of the new portico, custom built cedar beams and brackets along with new custom made cedar entry and garage doors added warmth and style.
Final touches of natural stone, a paver stoop and walkway, along professionally designed landscaping.
This home went from ordinary to extraordinary!

Cornerstone ArchitectsThe driving impetus for this Tarrytown residence was centered around creating a green and sustainable home. The owner-Architect collaboration was unique for this project in that the client was also the builder with a keen desire to incorporate LEED-centric principles to the design process. The original home on the lot was deconstructed piece by piece, with 95% of the materials either reused or reclaimed. The home is designed around the existing trees with the challenge of expanding the views, yet creating privacy from the street. The plan pivots around a central open living core that opens to the more private south corner of the lot. The glazing is maximized but restrained to control heat gain. The residence incorporates numerous features like a 5,000-gallon rainwater collection system, shading features, energy-efficient systems, spray-foam insulation and a material palette that helped the project achieve a five-star rating with the Austin Energy Green Building program.

Lorin Hill, ArchitectAn existing mid-century ranch house is renovated and expanded to accommodate the client's preference for a modern style of living. The extent of the renovation included a reworked floor plan, new kitchen, a large, open great room with indoor/outdoor space and an expended and reconfigured bedroom wing. Newly vaulted ceilings with shed dormers bring substantial daylight into the living spaces of the home. The exterior of the home is reinterpreted as a modern take on the traditional farmhouse.
