Starr Custom HomesThis 5466 SF custom home sits high on a bluff overlooking the St Johns River with wide views of downtown Jacksonville. The home includes five bedrooms, five and a half baths, formal living and dining rooms, a large study and theatre. An extensive rear lanai with outdoor kitchen and balcony take advantage of the riverfront views. A two-story great room with demonstration kitchen featuring Miele appliances is the central core of the home.
Henck Design LLCThis dining room is mostly neutral with soft blue walls that accentuate the soft traditional style that echoes through this gorgeous Main Line home. Upholstered dining chairs give this room a cozy feel that allows for super comfortable seating.
UserThis dining room redo had to be a combination of bright, cozy and kid friendly. We paired an extendable rustic dining table with the clean lines of modern leather chairs (easy to clean) and a leather bench (comfy for toddlers). The juxtaposition of a modern light fixture and artwork in a traditional space makes this a adult friendly space as well.
Alfonso DiLauroThis 1400 square foot townhouse may be a smaller space but it has a large impact. Using a royal blue background in a Home Depot Marquise product was starting point in creating the contrast . The trim was done in a Benjamin Moore decorators white semi gloss while the walls are in a matt finish . The gold Marino glass fixture added a warm tone to the area. The frame for art was also done in a gold with gold highlights in the Ikat wool rug. The chairs around the walnut table are finished in a tan linen with tacked trim. The two chairs housed are done in a white frame with oyster cotton fabric. The alabaster bowl is carved from one block and adds the white tone needed to play off trim.

Olamar InteriorsThis condo in Sterling, VA belongs to a couple about to enter into retirement. They own this home in Sterling, along with a weekend home in West Virginia, a vacation home on Emerald Isle in North Carolina and a vacation home in St. John. They want to use this home as their "home-base" during their retirement, when they need to be in the metro area for business or to see family. The condo is small and they felt it was too "choppy," it didn't have good flow and the rooms were too separated and confined. They wondered if it could have more of an open concept feel but were doubtful due to the size and layout of the home. The furnishings they owned from their previous home were very traditional and heavy. They wanted a much lighter, more open and more contemporary feel to this home. They wanted it to feel clean, light, airy and much bigger then it is.
The first thing we tackled was an unsightly, and very heavy stone veneered fireplace wall that separated the family room from the office space. It made both rooms look heavy and dark. We took down the stone and opened up parts of the wall so that the two spaces would flow into each other.
We added a view thru fireplace and gave the fireplace wall a faux marble finish to lighten it and make it much more contemporary. Glass shelves bounce light and keep the wall feeling light and streamlined. Custom built ins add hidden storage and make great use of space in these small rooms.
Our strategy was to open as much as possible and to lighten the space through the use of color, fabric and glass. New furnishings in lighter colors and soft textures help keep the feeling light and modernize the space. Sheer linen draperies soften the hard lines and add to the light, airy feel. Jackie Vella DesignThis classic dining room features blue gray paint with white wainscoting. The strong dark furniture contrasts well to make the furniture stand out. The two leather dining chairs work very nicely with the soft upholstered back dining chairs.
