The crystal clear aquamarine waters of Lake Blue Ridge make it one of Georgia's most picturesque mountain lakes. The 3,290-acre lake and surrounding area offer campsites, several boat ramps, a full-service marina and public swimming and picnic areas. 80 percent of the shoreline on Lake Blue Ridge is in the Chattahoochee National Forest, managed by the USDA Forest Service.
Blue Ridge reservoir is 11 miles long and has 65 miles of shoreline, 25 percent of which is developed. The lake was formed when Blue Ridge Dam was constructed on the Toccoa River in 1930 by the Toccoa Electric Power Company. At the time it was built, the dam was the largest earthen dam in the Southeast. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) purchased the facility in 1939 for hydroelectric power production.
There’s a scenic overlook above the dam and a shaded picnic area near the powerhouse. The canoe and kayak launch site below the dam gives non-motorized boaters access to the Toccoa River.
The river is noted among anglers for its sunfish, trout, and bass. When water is released from Blue Ridge Dam to generate electricity, the river becomes a Class I-II float through the Georgia hills. Besides providing power and recreational opportunities, Blue Ridge also helps reduce flood damage.
The lake is home to bass, bream, catfish, perch and crappie, which make the area popular with anglers. It is the only lake south of the Great Lakes where Walleye are caught, and is also known for small-mouth bass fishing.
Recreation on Lake Blue Ridge
Pontoons and jet skis are available for rent at the Lake Blue Ridge Marina, on old U.S. 76. The marina has a boat ramp, fishing, boating supplies and boat storage.
Swimming, camping, fishing and boat ramps are available at Morganton Point Recreation Area in Morganton. Other boat ramps are located at Lakewood Landing on Old Highway 76, Morganton, and Lake Blue Ridge Recreation Area, Aska Road.

Eminent Interior DesignThe homeowners selected Minneapolis Interior Designer, Brandi Hagen to make their interior home design more hip. Originally built in the 1970s, a contemporary retro theme complemented this newly remodeled home. Beautiful, yet practical, the interior design holds up to heavy use among four active boys. The ultra-suede sofa is durable enough to withstand routine scrubbings. Commercial – grade carpets bound into area rugs accommodate high foot and Hot Wheels traffic. Brandi retained neutral tones in the home’s fixtures, with grey walls, warm woods and mellow upholsteries. Colorful accents, including rugs, artwork and pillows jazz up the space white providing far-out focal points. A red birch wall provides separation between the more formal and casual spaces but creatively disguises storage that is found with the touch of a finger. 360modernSoaring vaulted ceiling and wall of windows show off magnificent Puget Sound views in this Northwest Contemporary home designed by Seattle Architect Ralph Anderson. Overhead Soffit lighting cast warm hues off the cedar-clad ceilings.
Mitchell Channon DesignThe Great Room features an energetic mix of colors and patterns. These combine with modern forms and ethnographic elements to create a crescendo to the day. Grouped with iconic Milo Baughman chairs, a sensuous white vintage Vladimir Kagan sofa pops against rich hues of copper and blue. Its curves are mirrored in a circular pendant fixture that centers the seating group and a custom-designed elliptical rug.

John Senhauser ArchitectsOur client initially asked us to assist with selecting materials and designing a guest bath for their new Tucson home. Our scope of work progressively expanded into interior architecture and detailing, including the kitchen, baths, fireplaces, stair, custom millwork, doors, guardrails, and lighting for the residence – essentially everything except the furniture. The home is loosely defined by a series of thick, parallel walls supporting planar roof elements floating above the desert floor. Our approach was to not only reinforce the general intentions of the architecture but to more clearly articulate its meaning. We began by adopting a limited palette of desert neutrals, providing continuity to the uniquely differentiated spaces. Much of the detailing shares a common vocabulary, while numerous objects (such as the elements of the master bath – each operating on their own terms) coalesce comfortably in the rich compositional language.
