This 80's style Mediterranean Revival house was modernized to fit the needs of a bustling family. The home was updated from a choppy and enclosed layout to an open concept, creating connectivity for the whole family. A combination of modern styles and cozy elements makes the space feel open and inviting.

Refreshing the fireplace was high on our to-do list! The fireplace is now a focal point in the house, and with this overhaul, it's newly crafted, dark wood mantel, Roycroft Green painted brick (by Sherwin Williams), and handmade tiles from Clayhaus are just the right elements to make this statement. These homeowners loved the Gustave Klimpt "Tree of Life" and we made the room shine with refinished hardwood flooring and the wood work refresh throughout. We designed this kitchen using Plain & Fancy custom cabinetry with natural walnut and white pain finishes. The extra large island includes the sink and marble countertops. The matching marble backsplash features hidden spice shelves behind a mobile layer of solid marble. The cabinet style and molding details were selected to feel true to a traditional home in Greenwich, CT. In the adjacent living room, the built-in white cabinetry showcases matching walnut backs to tie in with the kitchen. The pantry encompasses space for a bar and small desk area. The light blue laundry room has a magnetized hanger for hang-drying clothes and a folding station. Downstairs, the bar kitchen is designed in blue Ultracraft cabinetry and creates a space for drinks and entertaining by the pool table. This was a full-house project that touched on all aspects of the ways the homeowners live in the space.

This project was featured in Midwest Home magazine as the winner of ASID Life in Color. The addition of a kitchen with custom shaker-style cabinetry and a large shiplap island is perfect for entertaining and hosting events for family and friends. Quartz counters that mimic the look of marble were chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance. Open shelving with brass sconces above the sink create a focal point for the large open space.
Putting a modern spin on the traditional nautical/coastal theme was a goal. We took the quintessential palette of navy and white and added pops of green, stylish patterns, and unexpected artwork to create a fresh bright space. Grasscloth on the back of the built in bookshelves and console table along with rattan and the bentwood side table add warm texture. Finishes and furnishings were selected with a practicality to fit their lifestyle and the connection to the outdoors. A large sectional along with the custom cocktail table in the living room area provide ample room for game night or a quiet evening watching movies with the kids.

The midcentury modern style seen in the reading area is used once again in the living room furniture, being a style that works perfectly with the more traditional features of the space such as the parquet flooring and ceiling moulding. A gold framed circle mirror is used on the chimney breast as a focal piece, while colourful accents are seen in the rug, scatter cushions, books and shelf accessories, echo the colours seen in the large wall map, and add to the element of fun created in the space.
