Custom Wreathed Handrail
This is a custom reproduction railing on an old staircase. The winding and circular treads require a continuously changing railing slope throughout the length of the staircase. A very challenging project only achievable by a few master stairbuilders anywhere in the world today. It begins with a custom ascending volute, which meets with a three section wreathed railing. Stairways Intl has the machinery to produce railing parts such as these completely by machine, which used to take a expert handrailer weeks to carve entirely by hand in the old days. We also have a proprietary method of laying out the complex curves which while based on the ancient methods, is now done mathematically by calculation for exact accuracy. Any profile and down to a 2 1/2" radius are possible in any wood species. A unifit volute is now available in many premium profiles.
