Farmhouse Renovation, Addition, & Garage
The main house to the left is original Greek Revival from the 1860's. The garage addition to the right is from the 1990's and looks like it is more of a Ranch house style. To keep the historical feel and make an addition that is in context to the original design, a new addition was added in a barn style. The garage will be converted to living space and a new garage added in front.
An addition should always be smaller than the original historic structure and distinctly separate from it. Since the house is small options are limited.
When looking at the building the original section will appear historic and the addition and the garage together will look like a barn attached. This style could not be repeated otherwise. It would look out of place mixing it with a historic home.
