With the slope of the roof interfering with storage area in the laundry room the owners decided to put a shelf directly on top of the washer/dryer and utilize much more of the space. A 1/2" thick rubber mat was placed on top of the machines to avoid vibration from the machines. The owners have said it has made the room even quieter.
