Petronella House

Petronella House involves the refurbishment and extension of a substantial Victorian villa in a Sheffield conservation area. The main house will be subject to a considerable conservation, restoration, and refurbishment to preserve and enhance its fabric inside and out, improve its circulation and the connection between floors, upgrade thermal performance, and address previous unsympathetic alterations. A new stair from first floor to attic will form a continuation of the main stair, allowing light to penetrate down from the roof to connect the attic to the rest of the house. The demolition of existing extensions to the main house, and their replacement with an unashamedly contemporary extension will provide a spacious kitchen/dining space and connection with the large established garden. The material palette of the extension is proposed to be sympathetic to the house, and the form of the extension is proposed to be crisp, contemporary, reflecting modern family living, and avoiding pastiche.
