Help!! Paint choices for kitchen cabinets - want contemporary look

Cynthia
9 år siden

Our cabinets are a basic honey oak, counter-tops are a 12x12 sandy porcelain tile, and floors are a terracotta-ish porcelain tile. I really like a contemporary look, mixed with industrial and rustic elements. I can't replace the tile floors or counter-tops, but am going to have kitchen cabinets painted. I want to bring in whites and grays, but which shades will match best with the existing sand-colored counter-tops and orangey flooring? Whites, creams, grays - or whites on perimeter cabinets and dark grey/charcoal on island? I would love your color recommendations (with names/brands of shades)!

Additionally, would a round kitchen table on a round or square area rug work best in this space (long, open kitchen, eating area, and family room), and should I choose a kitchen table area rug that coordinates with the family room area rug (or that is the same, but round)?

Also would love your lighting ideas for over kitchen table...

Thanks for your advice!! BTW so sorry for the pics being sidewise - I couldn't figure out how to flip them to a vertical position!

Thanks so much, flair lighting! I really appreciate the photos - does anyone happen to know the names of some white, cream, or light gray paint colors that will go well with my terra cotta tile floors? Thanks again for your help!!

Thanks athtex - Classic French Gray looks gorgeous! What about a somewhat darker paint color for the island? Any thoughts?

If you want to add that "Industrial look" to your kitchen, *This is something I want to do in the future to my own home* is skinning those areas and backsplash areas with sheet metal. A copper colored mill finish sheet metal may be what you are looking for to accommodate all your interests in style & color. I say copper because it can be bought by the sheet and cut and applied to all of the faces you have in that area. Grey to me would be "Blah" in that space. This allows you to have all the style you wanted. The best thing about this is you would be original. More than likely your friends and family would want to copy your "Style".

Thanks Window Depot USA! I agree - metal sheeting for the backsplash areas would look amazing! Can that be applied directly over the current tile backsplash? Also, what would you recommend to replace the current sandy tile countertops?

What about Ben Moore Revere Pewter? I know it's overdone, but I think it's a nice light greige that I think will go with beiges, taupes, and greys.

Yes, it can be applied directly over your current backsplash...I have seen it done with sheeted, mill-finished aluminum...An amazing transformation. As for your counter-tops, a granite, or marble with colors in the veins that accentuate your home's kitchen colors would be the thread holding it all together... Industrial with style...
