Would like to paint my fireplace mantle a darker accent color.

    I think with your current wall color it will look dated darker

    Without seeing the rest of the room and your furniture it's hard to give definitive advice, but just from the photo, I like the mantle as is. I would, however put a larger piece of art over the mantle and find a special wall where you can group your s collection. I'd also remove all of the things below on the step, Less is more! Best of luck:)
